Evelyn May Wursten Huppi

December 22, 1923 — January 25, 2013

LOGAN, UTAH: Evelyn May Wursten Huppi passed away peacefully 25 Jan 2013 in Logan, Utah. She was 89 years old.

Evelyn was born 22 Dec 1923 in North Logan, Utah to Rosa von Niederhausern and John Wursten. She was the youngest of 7 children.

Evelyn attended school in North Logan and graduated from South Cache High School in 1942. She attended Utah State Agricultural College.

Evelyn grew up during the Depression, learning to work hard, loving the outdoors, horses and dogs. She was a member of the Canter Club and enjoyed horseback rides into the mountains and camping. She helped her father dry farm in Daniels, Idaho during WWII and could drive a team, a truck and tractor with the best of the boys.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served a mission to the Eastern States Mission shortly after WWII. Throughout her life she held many callings within the church.

Evelyn was the first X-Ray technician in Cache Valley and worked at the old LDS Hospital. In her later years she worked at Schreiber’s on the swing shift, retiring at 72. She was an avid gardener, canner, and bread maker. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed feeding her family and friends. No one ever left her home hungry.

Evelyn loved and married Alma A. Huppi on 2 March 1951 in the Logan Temple. They were blessed with 5 sons and no daughters. (The neighbors said the lack of daughters was because she lived on a bad corner). Later she was mother-in-law for 3 wonderful women, whom she loved dearly and they loved her. In November 1963, she and Alma were in a horrible car accident that took the lives of 2 of their friends. Alma was severely injured and was disabled from then on. She nursed and cared for him and the boys for many years. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers John Luther (Jack), Edgar and Arnold, her sister Karine Hill, her eldest son John and a grandson, Niclaus. She is survived by her brother, Ervin and sister, Rachael (Rae) Winslow, 4 sons, Jim (Julie), Mike, Hal (Julie), Terrel (Marilyn), and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She presently has posterity of 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Huffman and his staff, all the health care professionals who have assisted over the years, and Legacy House of Logan for all the help and care given her.

There will be a viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm. at the Allen Mortuary of North Logan, 410 East 1800 North and again on Saturday at the church prior to the funeral at the Logan 19th Ward, 1255 N 600 E from 9:30 to 10:30 am.
