D. Farrell Balls, 78, of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully on Feb. 7, 2013, in his home, surrounded by family. Farrell was born July 30, 1934, in Hyde Park, Utah, the son of Dueard Clair Balls and Thora Seamons Balls. He graduated from North Cache High School and Seminary, class of 1952. He then attended Salt Lake Barber College, graduating in 1953. Farrell married his pretty Paradise sweetheart Patricia Jean Obray,on August 1, 1956, in the Logan LDS temple. He owned and operated Farrell’s Barber Shop for many years. After making a career change he worked for the Cache County School District where he made life- long friends and enjoyed their company through his retirement years. Farrell was an active member of the LDS church and had a strong testimony.
Among the many things that brought him happiness: his farm and animals, soaking up the sun in his lawn chair, passing out treats to the neighborhood kids, good games of zilch, his rock and coin collections, and lunch dates with his brothers and sisters-in-law. He also enjoyed mornings at Angies with his friends from the “Grandpa’s Club.”
Family was the most important part of his life. He delighted in getting phone calls from his grandkids, tickling, teasing, and fun family gatherings. He is survived by his dear wife Pat and four daughters:
Shelly (Bob) Carpenter, Diana (Mike) Heaps, Wendy Balls (Dara Albanese), Lynette (Doug) Buttars. Nine grandchildren: Tony, Jacob, Nathan, Clif, Lindsay, Shanna, Kelsey, Aimee, and Carley. He is also survived by twelve great-grand children (and two more on the way). His three sisters: VaLoye (Carl) Cronquist, Linda (Bob) Christensen, and Janet (Steve) Huggins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many friends, neighbors, ward members, and medical staff who have helped us through this difficult time.
Farrell will be dearly missed, and we are so grateful to know that families are forever.
