Faye B. Stucki

Faye Ballantyne Sonne Stucki, the last survivor of the family of Alma & Geneva Ballantyne Sonne passed away on November 30, 2012, surrounded by her loving children after a short stay at Sunshine Terrace. Faye was born on May 6, 1914 at her home. She was born and reared with her brother in a new bungalow, the first of its kind at 491 North Main in Logan, Utah.
As a lifelong resident of Logan, she attended the Logan City schools and graduated from Utah State Agricultural College,(Utah State University), with degrees in Speech and English. While at the University, she affiliated with Chi Omega Sorority and Theta Alpha Phi, National Dramatic Fraternity. She was active in speech and drama endeavors, as well as music which were lifelong interests. Music, especially, piano, organ, and steel guitar figured prominently in her life as she played all instruments in church and civic affairs. She also enjoyed composing music and in writing poetry and stories.
Upon graduation she taught speech, English and typing at North Cache High School for several years. She also directed plays and operas, and acted as pianist for student performers.
After a five-year courtship, she married her best friend, Leon Golden Stucki in the Logan LDS Temple on July 29,1937. He engaged in building construction and the retail business for many years, which took him to a number of western states as a sub-contractor for roofing, drywall, and acoustical tile installations, He didn't neglect civic activities, as he became President of the Cache Chamber of Commerce after holding many positions in the organization. His Church also took up considerable time as he remained active his entire life holding numerous positions. He passed away on July 2,1997.
Faye, also, was active in church and civic affairs. She was Educational Director of Delta Theta Chi, a national professional women's fraternity. She served on the Logan Community
Foundation and was involved in programs for the mentally and physically handicapped. She also was a judge for many years for the USU Poetry Festival. Being of pioneer descent, she enjoyed her years as a member of the Brigham Young Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers acting in numerous capacities including president, chaplain, and chorister.
Her service in the Church of Jesus Christ 'of Latter-day Saints was of long duration and included many positions as pianist, organist, Relief Society Executive Secretary, and teacher in both
ward and stake positions. In more recent years, she was organist for the LDS Branch of the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She and her husband were officiators in the Logan LDS Temple for several years, positions they described as the crowning achievement of their productive lives.
The Leon G. Stucki Family is all members of the Old Main Society, and donors to the Utah Festival Opera and the Cache Valley Center for the Arts. Mrs. Stucki is also listed as an honorary member of the College of Education Advisory Council, a friend and patron of the College of Education, and a donor of scholarships in Special Education and Communicative Disorders. She also helped establish the Alma Sonne University Scholars Program.
Survivors include her three children, Leon Brent, Valdon S. and Paula S. Her brothers who preceded her were Richard B. Sonne, Conway B. Sonne, Alma B. Sonne, and Norman Lee B. Sonne. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Enid Rose Hanson Sonne (Norman Lee). Patricia Hatch Sonne (Alma B.)
A memorial service will be held on December 5, 2012 at 12:30pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary 34 E. Center St. in Logan, Utah. Elder L. Tom Perry, Faye's cousin will be presiding at the services. The family will receive friends prior to services from to 11-12. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sunshine Terrace in her name.
