Faye Stuart Howell
Faye Stuart Howell, 88, slipped peacefully away on Monday, October 10, 2011 at Sunshine Terrace. Faye was born on April 11, 1923 in Hyrum, Utah, in the home of her Aunt Marvilla Stuart Larsen. She was from a family of nine being the seventh child and fifth daughter born to John Hendry and Mary Janetta McBride Stuart. Faye’s early childhood was spent on the family ranch in New Chicago, in Southwestern Montana. The family returned to Utah in 1930 making their home originally in Benson and later settling in Millville in 1935. Her mother passed away in 1936 leaving Faye to help her father raise her two younger sisters, Dorothy and Laree. She graduated from South Cache High School and Stevens Henagar Business College in Salt Lake City.
Faye married Vance Wade Howell on July 26, 1943 in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he was stationed in Army Air Corps. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 2, 1943. While Wade was overseas during World War II, Faye lived in Millville with her papa and sisters working at first the Scout Office and then the business office of the old Budge Clinic on Main Street in Logan. When Wade returned they made their home for their entire marriage in Hyde Park. Faye served for many years as the primary president of Hyde Park Ward. When the children were older she returned to the work force; working at CVBA where she was the receptionist. After the children were all graduated from college, Faye retired and traveled with Wade to many construction sites taking her grandchildren with her during the summer. After Wade retired, they served as officiators in the Logan LDS Temple until their health declined. Vance Wade passed away on April 15, 2006 at their home. Faye is survived by her four children: Stuart (Marsha) of Hyde Park; Joyce Howell of Hyde Park; Roger (Annette) of North Ogden: and Jerilyn (Gregory) Larsen of Logan; 10 grandchildren: Jonathan, Christopher, Sidney, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Trevor, Nicholas, Jessica, Jacob, and Heidi; and 30 great-grandchildren that were Faye’s greatest joy.
Faye is also survived by two sisters: LaRee Howland and Dorothy Hall and a sister-in-law, Shirley Howell May, all of Provo; and a brother-in-law Jack Hansen Matkin of Las Vegas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Alvin and Jack, and her older sisters Ruby Bradshaw, Phyllis Wight, Rosealee Stuart, and Nettie Kidman.
The family wishes to thank Adult Day Center, Legacy House, and The Sunshine Terrace for lovingly caring for our mother during her illness. A special thanks goes to Dr. Michael Stones, and Denise, Sandy, LaNae, and all of the CNA’s in Wing One of Sunshine Terrace.
