Feron Richard Stock

LOGAN, UTAH: Feron R. Stock passed away on February 2, 2015 surrounded by loved ones in Bountiful of causes incident of age. He was born May 5, 1926 in Logan a son of Sidney Richard and Josephine Clark Stock. He was a Logan native and graduated from Logan High School in 1944. Upon LHS graduation, he enter the Navy V-5 Aviation Program and was sent to Westminster College in Fulton, MO, then to Western Michigan College, and finally to Northwestern University where he graduated with a BS degree in Naval Science and was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy in 1947. He later attended Utah State University for post-graduate studies in preparation to attend College of Physicians and Surgeons in San Francisco graduating with a DDS degree in 1952. Feron returned to P&S as a Clinical Instructor from 1954 to 1957.

Upon graduating from dental school, he was recalled back to active duty with the US Navy and served as the Dental Division Officer aboard the USS Dixie (AD-14) in the Pacific Theater of Operations for 2 ½ years during the Korean War. After being released from active duty at the conclusion of the war, Feron maintained his Commission in the Naval Reserve and was Commanding Officer to the 12th Navy Dental District based at Alameda Naval Air Station retiring at the rank of Commander, USNR.

He established his private practice in Hayward, CA in 1954 and maintained this practice until retirement in 1989. Professionally he was licensed in both Utah and California; was a member (and Board Member) of the Alameda County Dental Society, California State Dental Society, Life Member of the American Dental Society, Staff Member of Laurel Grove Hospital, and President of Majestic Pines Medical Center. In the community, Feron was a member of the Hayward Lions Club for over 30 years, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion.

His adult service in the Boy Scouts of America included; Cub Scout Leader, Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, Scout Committee Chairman, and Merit Badge Councilor. He received the Silver Beaver award for Distinguished Service to Youth from the San Francisco Bay Area Council on January 26, 1980.

Feron married the love of his life, Elinor M. “Jackie” Lahs in San Leandro, CA on December 22, 1954. They were later sealed in the LDS Logan Temple. They were active in the LDS church. Feron served as a Sunday School teacher and a Family History Specialist. He and Jackie served in both the Oakland and Logan Family History Centers in addition to Temple Officiators in the Oakland and Logan LDS Temples.

He is survived by two sons. Richard “Rick” C. Stock (Phyllis) and their children: Jacob Stock (Judy), Benjamin Stock (Nichole), Heidi Rose (Ryan), Kathryn Burton (John), and Michael Stock. Karl F. Stock (Diane) and their children: Richard Stock (Emmery), Nathan Stock (Katie), Amy Sommer (Travis), Laralynn Caldwell (Jackson), and Jeffrey Stock. Surviving Brothers are: Reed C. Stock (Janet) and Harold S. Stock (MaryBeth). He is preceded in death by his wife Jackie, parents Sidney and Josephine Stock, and sister Gwendolyn Stock Smith.

Funeral service will at Monday at 11:00am at the Cliffside 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 1380 East 25 North, Logan UT. Viewings will be at Allen-Hall Mortuary 34 East Center St. Logan UT on Sunday February 8th from 6-8pm and on February 9th at the Cliffside Chapel from 10-10:45am prior to the funeral service.
