RIVER HEIGHTS, UTAH: Florence Williams Hall, 90, passed away peacefully, Oct. 16th, at Williamsburg Retirement Community, in Logan, She was born Dec.22, 1923, in her grandmother's home across the street from the Tremonton Hospital. She was the third of seven children born to Hattie Leona Newman and Charles Lavon Williams.
Florence started school in Howell, Utah. She went to grade school in Bothwell, Bear River High School and then graduated from South Cache High School
where she rode the train to get to school. Florence's family moved to Wellsville in 1939, where she met her husband at a mutual dance. Eldon Hill Hall and Florence were married Oct.9. 1942.
Six weeks later Eldon was inducted into the Army. Florence traveled with Eldon to several places in the U.S. where he was stationed for the next 18 months until he went overseas. She then moved home to live with her parents where their first child was born.
When Eldon was released after World War II three years later, they moved to Salt Lake City where Eldon was working for Mountain Bell.
Eldon was transferred to Logan Mountain Bell and they built their home in River Heights in Feb. 1951, where they lived for many years until it became too much for them to maintain.
Eldon passed away in 2007 at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Florence has been a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has been a visiting teacher for many years and has served in other callings.
She was a member of the Lady Lions where she served in several leadership
positions including President and she was a member of the Las Amiga's Club of River Heights for 50 years.
Surviving Florence and Eldon are their three children, Gordon and Sharen Hall, Bountiful, Utah; Katherine and Gregg Wilkes , North Logan, Utah, and Debbie and Brent Munk, Amalga, Utah, and Florence's two brothers, Hugh Williams and Clifton Williams.
Florence has always enjoyed reading, oil painting, garage sales, and listening to audio tapes. She was a talented seamstress, sewing most of her children's clothes and worked for Mode 0 Day, sewing side seams for many years until she retired.
She was fiercely independent and a great example of determination to overcome
her trials, especially as she slowly went blind due to macular degeneration..
Special thanks to AFI Advanced Care Hospice, Jill Reusser CNA, Gaby Carter RN and Williamsburg Retirement, especially when she became bed ridden. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 am in the River Heights 4th Ward, 800 South 600 East, River Heights. There will be a viewing on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan and at the church on Friday from 9:30 - 10:30 am. Interment will be in the Wellsville City Cemetery.
