FLOYD V. ISRAELSEN
Floyd Victor Israelsen, 91, passed away at his home, Tuesday September 20, 2011. He was born September 27, 1919 to Victor Eugene and Eva May Butler Israelsen. With the exception of LDS missionary service in the Central States, Floyd has enjoyed all of his years in beautiful Cache Valley.
Floyd has always been devoted to his family, faith, friends and farm. His gentle nature, exceptional wisdom, unconditional love, and genuine goodness have blessed many lives in many ways. All of Floyd’s children, 61 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren are beneficiaries of his steady example and kind words of encouragement. They are also grateful their father and grandfather willingly extended his circle to include all people of all backgrounds. He truly was a man without guile.
Floyd married Zeneth Gilgen in 1941. She died six years later, leaving Floyd with young daughter, Carol. In 1948 Floyd married Mildred Nash and together they raised nine children: Carol (Bud, deceased) Hogan, Logan; Reta (Brent) Tischner, Salem; Bernard (Vicki), Snowflake, Arizona; Clark (Marsha), Young Ward; Evelyn (Dale) Maples, Richmond; LaDean (Bruce) Thorne, Mendon; Victor (Jill), Young Ward; Dixie (William) Allen, Cove; KayDawn (Tracy) Sorensen, College Ward. He also enjoyed an unusual closeness to his brothers and sisters, who were as loyal to him as he was to them. Mildred passed away in 2006.
Church service was always a priority with Dad. Most quickly sensed his genuine love for them and total confidence in them. He enjoyed a multitude of church callings, including service as Bishop of Young Ward and two Single Adult Wards. He also enjoyed serving as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple, as a home teacher and as a Stake patriarch. He had great confidence in young people and in adults, too.
Floyd’s allegiance to others resulted in numerous friends who were treasured daily. He always enjoyed a good visit and delighted in telling stories and discussing current events. He often reminded his family that faithful friends are genuine treasures.
Floyd always loved farming. He thrilled to see animals and plants grow and enjoyed doing his part in feeding the world. He relished working hard on his diversified farm in Young Ward, always getting good yields out of land that was not very productive. Over the years he raised most every species of livestock and poultry. Even into his 90’s, Dad enjoyed feeding baby calves each morning and took great pleasure in cutting and bailing hay during the summer. He always took satisfaction in work and productivity.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, September 24, at the College/Young Ward Chapel, 2394 W 2200 S. A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 23 at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan, and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. In lieu of flowers, Dad would recommend a donation to those with greater needs. Condolences may be extended to the family on line by visiting
