PROVIDENCE, UTAH - Forrest Fay John, 90 years old, of Providence, Utah, died a natural death on 6 February 2010 after a full life.
Forrest was born 10 July 1919 near Byers, Stafford County, Kansas, the third of seven children to Glenn Llewellyn John and Mina Pearl Frazee. He grew up on a farm between Fayetteville and Cave Springs, Arkansas.
After graduating from high school and Fayetteville Academy in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Forrest was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Washington, DC, as a Clerk Typist, Investigative Clerk. During this time he met his future wife, a secretary with the FBI, and earned his undergraduate accounting degree from George Mason University. After serving two years with the FBI, Forrest took a four -year leave of absence and entered World War II as a navigator with the US Army Air Corps. He served in the European theater as a navigator on B-17 bombers. When Germany and Italy surrendered, Forrest was sent to the United States to train on B-24 bombers in preparation for service in the Pacific Theater. Japan surrendered before departing for the Pacillc Theater, however, and Forrest was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant from the US Air Force and returned to the FBI as a Special Agent for the remainder of his 30-year career.
On 22 July 1944, Forrest married Veda Wheeler Robinson (providence, Utah) in Houston, Texas. On 31 December 1955, Forrest was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On 13 April 1957, he received his endowments and was sealed to his wife and four children in the Los Angeles Temple.
Hobbies included gardening, reading, making fishing poles and tying flies, fishing, electronics, wood working, photography, and family research. Forrest and his wife spent six to nine months per year on the road for over 20 years doing family research after his retirement. They also served a Church mission in the Arkansas Little Rock Mission.
Preceding him in death are his parents; sister Oletha Pearl John Bell; brother Glenn Griffith John; sister Etta Virginia John Smith; brother John Jay John; sister Glenda Ruth John Howell; and a son, Robert (Bob) Ray John (Alexandria, Virginia).
Surviving him are his wife Veda Wheeler Robinson John (providence, Utah); son Glenn George John (Salt Lake City, Utah); daughter-in-law Barbara Jean Luttrell John (Alexandria, Virginia); daughter Marsha John (Escondido, California); son Forrest Frazee John (providence, Utah); 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister Faye Ester John Sarratt (Gentry, Arkansas).
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 13 at the Providence 4th Ward Chapel, 100 North 100 East in Providence. A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, February 12 at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan. There will be no viewing prior to services.
