Francis Stanley Brown (“Mutt”), 88, passed away in Logan on Sat. Nov. 23, 2013.
He was born in Logan on June 27, 1925, to Ira and Emma Brown, the fifth of seven children. He attended Logan City schools, and prior to his high school graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
After boot camp at Camp Elliot in San Diego, he became a member of the Second Marine Division and served in Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa, and participated in the occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged Jan. 11, 1946. In high school he acquired the nickname Mutt and has been affectionately known as such by many friends.
On June 26, 1946, he married his sweetheart, Loa McFarland. In 1959, they were sealed in the Logan Temple. Francis retired from the Post Office in 1981. He and Loa enjoyed several years of traveling and camping together. Their favorite place to relax was at their family property, “the GetAway”, in Idaho, where he loved to fish and be with his family. He was an active member of the LDS Church and tried diligently to serve the Lord.
Francis is survived by his wife and five children: Peggy (Doug-deceased) Berry of Salt Lake City, Bob & Jone Brown of Smithfield, David & Kathy Brown of Liberty, Dennis & Yvonne Brown of Syracuse, and Randy & Linda Brown of Salem, Ore., as well as one brother (Marriner of Logan) and two sisters (Lois Hess of West Point and Edith & Vernon Christensen of Ogden). They have 19 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren with 3 on the way. He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, a son-in-law, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 11:30 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 East Center Street in Logan. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Logan City Cemetery with military honors by the US Marines. Condolences may be sent tot he family at
