Fred Duersch, Sr.

June 22, 1912 — June 7, 2008

Fred Duersch, Sr. passed away peacefully on June 7, 2008 in the Logan Regional Hospital at the age of 95 from age related causes. Fred was born in 1912 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Fredrick and Lena Aeschbacher Duersch, the oldest of ten children. He spent his early years in the Teton Valley.
At the age of 21, he left to serve for 2 ½ years in the Swiss-German LDS Mission. While there, he met Anna Suess, the first LDS sister missionary to serve outside of North America. They were married in 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their marriage was blessed with six children. Fred worked in the carpentry industry in New York City shortly after his marriage. Fred and Anna then moved to Cache Valley where Fred worked for many years in the dairy industry until his retirement in 1973. After Anna's passing in 1974, Fred served a 2-year mission in the Florida Fort Lauderdale and Florida Tampa LDS missions. He also served for many years as a name extraction missionary and was a faithful home teacher. Fred was heavily involved in Boy Scouting his entire life including activity in the Order of the Arrow where he was awarded the Vigil Honor. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver for his many years of service. His dedication to Scouting can be seen in the continued Scouting activity of his sons and grandsons.
Fred's hobbies included gardening, fishing, and carpentry. He loved hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons and he provided all the fish for the annual family fish fry for many years. Fred blessed the lives of those around him with food from his garden, fish from his catch, beautiful carpentry pieces from his workshop and his strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his siblings-Mary, Nephi Henry, David, Edward James, and Betty Denning. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Tony Despain.
He is survived by his children Fred Jr. (Geraldine), Edith Despain, William (Vicki), John (Beverly), Wilford (Karen), and George (Merl) as well as his siblings-Alma, Barbara Schmitt, Lillian Anthon, and Alice Haycock. He has 26 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 11, from 6-8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan and at the Church on Thursday, June 12 at 11-12:30 p.m. prior to services.
