Freda Louise Bay Kay
December 20, 1926 — November 26, 2021
Beloved Daughter, Wife, Mother and Grandmother, Freda Kay passed away in her sleep after a long struggle with Alzheimer's on November 26, 2021.
She and her husband, Darrell E. Kay, raised 5 children in Salt Lake City, then Logan, Utah. She loved doing all the fun things with her kids that she did growing up. With endless energy and joy, she’d roller skate, hike, explore, race, play sports and games with them.
Her great love of life and her ability to endure painful hardships took root in the hills of Laramie, Wyoming (her birthplace) and in Eureka, Nevada where her family moved when she was 8. The Bays heroically survived the Great Depression. Freda’s father, Jack Leon Bay, was the LDS Bishop and later Nevada State Senator. Geneva Reynolds Bay, her mother, ran the Relief Society and boarding house.
Freda grew into a vivacious, lovely, talented woman. She respected everyone, widely traveled and treated ALL people equally, fairly, and lovingly throughout her 94+ years.
Beloved Executive Secretary of the Theatre Arts Department at Utah State University for 21 years, Freda was dedicated to her job and proud of her abilities. Both her department head and the University president wrote, “No secretary was better at the difficult job of dealing with the demands of 13 faculty members and the variety of student and public requests. Highly competent, she was friendly, with a cheery personality, and was genuinely concerned for the welfare of the students, faculty and the University”.
Freda is survived by her loving children, daughters Virginia L. Linford, Laurie G. Summers Pisani (David Pisani), son Shannon L. Kay (Cindy Kay), Gerry Kay (daughter-in-law), 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her parents Jack L. Bay, Geneva Reynolds Bay, her brother Jack Bay, her husband Darrell E. Kay, Sr., sister Venla Bay Jeffers, sons Darrell E. Kay, Jr. and Martin F. Kay, and her granddaughter Lara Linford.
Freda was a jewel full of sparkle and shine.
Her talents were many. Her countenance divine.
She loved dark chocolate, sewing and flowers.
She’d walk with her dog for hours and hours.
We’ll remember her love and unshakeable style.
And live our lives with a big Freda smile! “ “ “
A graveside service will be held December 11, 12:00 at the Logan City Cemetery.
In remembrance of Freda, plant some flowers and go on a walk!
