Garnet Smith Comish
Garnet Smith Comish, 96, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at her home in Cove. She was born June 15, 1912. She was born in Lewiston, Utah to Alma Francis Smith and Melissa Ann Bybee. She was the third of six children. She attended Lewiston Elementary and North Cache High School and LDS Business College in Salt Lake City.
On May 12, 1931 she married Alden P. Comish and moved to Cove, Utah. Here they lived and raised their family on a dairy farm. Four daughters were born to Ad and Garnet. They are: Bon Adell (Richard) Skidmore of Ammon, Idaho; Diane (Kenneth) Moosman of Bountiful, Utah; Gay (Lanny Gunnell deceased) (Larry) Olsen of Mt. Sterling, Utah; Aldene (Val) Rasmussen of Cache Junction, Utah.
She has 29 grandchildren, 87 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. Four grandchildren preceded her in death.
Garnet made sure that her girls were well dressed and looking pretty. She made many of their clothes herself. Their home was a place of peace and serenity. Love and laughter replaced any indication of quarreling between siblings.
At ninety five she broke her hip and had hip replacement surgery. She recovered and returned to her own home and continued to be a delight to those who came to visit and serve her. Her determination to return to her home was made possible with the loving support of the Cove community and her family. She was most appreciative to be in familiar surroundings for the remainder of her life.
Her brothers and sisters are Mildred (Bill) Karren (both deceased), Alma Smith (deceased), Gayle (Weston) Weaver (both deceased), Stephen (LaRue-deceased) Smith and Joan (Owen) Smoot.
Alden passed away 10 October 1981 leaving a great void in her life. Garnet has dedicated her life being a wonderful daughter, wife and mother and grandmother. In Cove she has developed many wonderful friendships with old and young alike. Garnet served her family and church. The latest church calling was the keeper of the key for the Cove Ward building. It hung just inside the door and was available to those who needed it for various activities. It was a source of joy to her to have many stop by for the key and a uplifting visit with the matriarch of Cove.
Garnet was a great optimist and was always finding good in others and many times turned the conversation to the positive.
The family is very appreciative of the hospice service she received from so many caring individuals as they became beloved friends. Dr. Russell Hirst of Lewiston has been especially caring and considerate.
Funeral services will be held Saturday the 25th October 2008 at 12:00 noon at the Cove Ward, 12832 North 2000 East, Cove, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services at the church in Cove from 10:00 to 11:30 am.
