On the morning of February 28th, 2024, Garth Brent Blackburn passed peacefully through the veil of this life, into his next great adventure. He had been battling with severe respiratory issues, and finally succumbed to his illnesses while at the St. George Regional hospital.
A man of great impact, he never lived a day that wasn’t full of a story or a song. He wore many hats over his 80 years including construction, education, performer, and author. As an educator he taught speech, debate, and/or drama for the Buhl and Twin Falls school districts. As a counselor he served the Minidoka and Buhl school districts prior to medically retiring. He was the original do-it-yourself master especially when it came to his automobiles or home improvement projects. One of his deepest passions came from the outdoors as a hunter and fisherman.
Once his health issues began to impact his ability to venture into the higher altitudes or get outdoors, he turned much of his attention back to his writings, novels, and short stories. A small collection of his self-published works were available on Amazon, while others were shared freely through social platforms like Facebook.
He lived with his wife (of nearly 40 years) in their residence in Mesquite Nevada up until the final weeks of his life. He is survived by his sisters Cheryl and Julie, wife Mary Jean, two sons, Sean and Dusty, stepdaughter Suzie, & many grandchildren. His memory will live on as vividly as he chose to live life, through the many hearts of those he touched.
A short graveside service will be held for Garth, on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 12:00 pm at the Logan City Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared and expressed at allenmortuaries.com.Blackburn, Brent - Graveside.m4a
