Gary P Bertonneau

August 4, 1933 — May 11, 2012

Gary Peter Bertonneau
Gary Peter Bertonneau was born in El Monte, California on August 4, 1933 and left mortality Friday, May 11, 2012. The son of Alyce Koen and Edward J. Bertonneau, he was raised on a dairy farm by his grandparents Katherine and Peter Koen. Gary often referred to his childhood, riding on the back of a horse in the undeveloped San Gabriel valley, as “idyllic.”
He and his wife Barbara Jean White, met at Covina High School and created a beautiful family during their 55 years together. They were married Sept 8, 1956 in Weisbaden, Germany where Gary was serving as a radio operator with the US Military.
After returning to California, Gary resumed his studies at University of Southern California where he earned his MBA, while working at TWA offices in Los Angeles.
The Bertonneau family grew. The three children are Ciel Marie (Reed Murri) of Richland, WA, Tamora Lynn (Michael Hurd) of Boise, Idaho, and Brian Douglas (Beth McFarland) of Richmond, Virginia. Gary and Barbara are grandparents to thirteen and great-grandparents of two great-grandsons.
Gary’s business career as Marketing Manager of Telecommunications for Hughes Aircraft Co. saw him travel worldwide. The family lived abroad 14 years and enjoyed rich experiences on foreign soil.
Their marriage was sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on July 26, 1963. Their marriage was a solid and complementary partnership. Gary willingly and enthusiastically accepted church assignments. He and Barbara taught early morning seminary in Southern California and served an eighteen month Church Education System mission in Perth, Australia. Serving in the Logan Temple for two years was a rich and spiritual experience.
Gary delighted in teaching and sharing his testimony of the gospel. His skills were well developed and always well received. Because of his ability to communicate many people have been blessed. He has a quick wit and delightful sense of humor.
True to his style of accomplishment he did not linger in his battle with kidney cancer. People loved to visit and felt uplifted and cheered by his positive nature. Gary departed having said, ‘So long’ to many friends and family. We are very saddened by our loss at this time, but have many, many fond memories and are at peace.
Gary will be remembered as generous, loving, patriotic, faithful, energetic, adventurous and an influential teacher.
Gary is survived by one sister, Leona King of Wrightwood, California and his aunt Martha Bertonneau Padve of Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday May 15, 2012 in the Lauralin Chapel , 325 Lauralin Dr., Logan Utah. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
