G. Curtis Billings, 69, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and son, Curtis was born December 16, 1943, the second of three children and only son of D.D. Billings and Carma Black Billings. Raised in Brigham City, Utah, Curtis graduated from Box Elder High School, where he enjoyed participating in athletics and thenpep band as a saxophone player. Curtis attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a BA in Political Science, and was an avid BYU sports fanatic. While in college, Curtis met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Fairbanks Billings of Raymond, Alberta, Canada on September 6, 1967 in the Cardston, Alberta temple.
Curtis was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as an LDS missionary in the Netherlands. Throughout his life he served in a variety of callings and also taught seminary in Morgan, Utah. He served as Chaplin in the Civil Air Patrol, both in Brigham City and Logan. He worked with his father in the family-owned business, Billings Oil, which was located in Perry, Utah. He was employed by Thiokol and worked as a manufacturing engineer. Curtis loved music and was a member of the Chorale Society and participated in various choirs, including singing under the direction of Will Kesling and Craig Jessup at Utah State University. During his lifetime Curtis enjoyed the outdoors, skiing, swimming, motor biking, tennis, hunting and he was an avid runner. His greatest joy was his family and he loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. You would frequently find Grandpa Billings holding a grandchild, reading a book or sharing his great sense of humor with others.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and his five children: Kerri (David) Anthon, Monica (Steven) Hugie, Scott (Amy) Billings, Elliot (Lindi) Billings, Tyler (Meghan) Billings, and 18 grandchildren and his two sisters, Linda Billings Knavel and Pamela Jean Billings Merrill. He was preceded in death by his parents. We would like to thank the doctors and those at hospice who cared for Curtis in his finals days here on earth.
