Gary W Oakden, age 81 of Logan, passed away Friday, January 8, 2016. He was born October 22, 1934 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Robert Lewis Oakden and Maudie Leavitt Oakden. He played minor league baseball before entering the Army. He was a rifleman in the Korean war from 1953 to 1955. He was stationed in Germany. He married Dixie Rae West, in Rigby, Idaho, on Valentine's Day, 1956. Every year, for the 56 years they were married, he gave her red roses and a box of chocolates. They moved from Idaho to River Heights, UT in 1961. He worked for Gateway Distributing for 34 years and was known as Gary Gateway. He retired in 1996. In 1998 He and Dixie flew south to a warmer climate.
Gary and Dixie were avid bowlers and golfers. He enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife - Dixie; mother - Maudie; father - Robert; stepmother - Betty; brother - Darwin Keith; sister- Judy Renteria. He is survived by his children; Debbie Key of Logan, UT, Vicky (Bart) Godfrey of Sun City West, AZ, Michael (Karen) of Logan, UT and Curtis (Margie) of River Heights, UT; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers: Robert "Bobby" Oakden, Oregon, David Oakden, Chugiak, AK, sisters: Cecilia Arnston ,Circle, MT, Gloria Mills, Rigby, ID, Marge Moedl, Rigby, ID, Linda Moore, Idaho Falls, ID, Robyn Oakden , Idaho Falls, ID.
Friends may call Friday, January 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E Center St, Logan, UT. Burial will be in the Providence (River Heights) cemetery following the viewing at 12 PM. Condolences and thoughts may be sent to the family online at
