Gary Vogel

October 22, 1943 — August 7, 2012

BRIGHAM - Gary Charles Vogel passed away at his home in Brigham City on August 7, 2012.He was born in Logan, Utah on October 22, 1943, the son of Rodney Charles Vogel and Elva Iverson Vogel of Millville, Utah. He spent his early years in Millville and after his father’s death, the family moved to Logan where Gary attended Logan High School. Gary married his high school sweetheart Myriam Cunkle of Logan in 1960.They sadly divorced in 1992 after raising 5 loving children. It was while he worked as a custodian at Utah State University that he developed an interest in becoming a machinist. He moved his little family to Bountiful while he worked to obtain his certification as a machinist from Salt Lake Technical Collage. The family then moved back to his beloved Millville and built their home on the family property while Gary found employment as a machinist/mechanic at ATK (formerly Thiokol). Gary enjoyed raising crops and small animals on his land while his children were growing up.He set an example of strong work ethics and took great pride in a job well done. He enjoyed buying used cars to rebuild, usually reselling them to acquaintances as they recognized his skills as a mechanic. Gary loved the canyons surrounding his beloved Millville recalling his memorable times with his own father and loved to take his grandsons with him. He found great solace and peace in the mountains. We know the boys will cherish these experiences.Gary had a great sense of humor and entertained everyone with his stories. The latter part of his life was filled with multiple health issues, and his inability to do the things he so loved brought him great sadness. He fought a great battle and didn’t want to give up but his body failed his will. He leaves behind his daughters: Ginny Vogel, North Ogden, Julie (Shawn) Bennett, Richmond, Natalie Floyd, Layton, Mandy Stewart, Willard, 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, a sister Sylvia (Douglas) Church, Taylorsville and his twin sister Gayla (Ron) Lemon, Providence, nieces and nephews, and many great lifelong friends in Cache Valley and Brigham City.
