Gaylia Kay Woolley

July 16, 1930 — September 26, 2013

Gaylia Kay Woolley, 83, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 of natural causes.

Gaylia was born July 16, 1930 in Magrath, Alberta, Canada, to Grant Goddard and Hazel Karren Woolley. She weighed nine pounds at birth and when she grew to be such a dainty, petite girl, her family claimed “she weighed nine pounds when she was born and has lost weight ever since.”

She attended the Magrath, Alberta schools and graduated from Lethbridge Collegiate High School in 1948. Her favorite subject throughout her schooling was Math and she loved to spar with her Dad and siblings on math problems around the dinner table. Her mental quickness helped her to do well at cards and she loved to play Rook, Rummy and Nertz and other games. Gaylia also had a natural talent for playing the piano by ear. She came home from the first day of the first grade and played the song they had sung that day at school. She has entertained friends and family with the popular tunes of the day.

Gaylia attended Utah State Agricultural College (now USU) and worked in the Deans office, before moving to California to work and later went back to get her degree at BYU. She graduated as one of the first to get a degree in Statistics. She then returned to work at Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco as a financial analyst.

Gaylia moved to Salt Lake City in 1987 and spent much time doing genealogical and temple work. She enjoyed traveling and was able to visit many places and countries. She moved to Bountiful in 2006 and then to Logan in 2008.

She is survived by a sister, Carol Rich of River Heights, a sister in law, Norma Woolley of Bountiful and 13 nieces and nephews, who she always remembered faithfully on their birthdays and Christmas. They are, Jane Harward (Steve) of Springville, UT; Wayne Woolley (Julie) of Rochester, MN; Mary Ellen Ross (Tim) of Herriman, UT; David Woolley of Bountiful, UT; Tricia Gannaway (Joe) of Rexburg, ID; Diane Weese (Mark) of River Heights, UT; Lori Plummer (Burke) of Draper, UT; Todd Rich (Karrie) of Fruit Heights, UT; Scott Rich (Amy) of Riverton , UT; Robert Rich (Aki) of Farmington, UT; Julie Ashcroft (Greg) of Smithfield, UT; Michael Rich (Emily) of Meridian, ID; and Brad Rich (Ashley) of Farmington, UT. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Donald Woolley, and a brother in law, Bill Rich.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 30 at 12:00 noon at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Providence City Cemetery following the service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
