Gennie Olson, 87, passed away on March 26th, 2023 in North Logan, Utah from natural causes.
Gennie was born June 24, 1935 in Harper Ward, Utah to Willard M. Yates and Elizabeth Ann Liptrot Yates. Gennie was the second oldest of 10 children and was raised on a dairy farm.
Genie was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Lee Olson and four of her sisters, Carol Olsen, Vonnie Michelson, Judy Haviland, and Effie Hanson. She is survived by five siblings, Annie Parker (Paradise), Irene Kelsey (Buhl, ID), Kirtland Yates (Malta, ID), Henry Yates (Richmond), and Debbie Robinson (Layton).
Gennie married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Lee Olson, right after graduation from Box Elder High School. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on July 18th 1966. Genie and Jerry were the proud parents of two boys, Jerry Lynn (Rose) of Richmond, UT and Ronald Ray (Liz) of Hyde Park, UT. Gennie is survived by her two sons, nine grandchildren and 21 ½ great-grandchildren.
Gennie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully throughout her life. Genie's greatest happiness came from her family, church service, with over 10 years at the Logan Temple, and staying active in the community. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Chair for American Cancer Society for many years, Republican Women Organization, Advisor for Lambda Delta Sigma at Utah State University. If there was ever a community activity or good cause, you would find her there and completely involved.
Some things Gennie was well known for: Her love of God, Family and Country, grandkids sleepovers, snow skiing, chocolate covered rice crispy treats, too many speeding tickets, lunch dates, pure white hair in her later years, using a few cow-milking words from time to time and bungee jumping in her 60's. She loved to create beautiful ceramics and crafts. She was always busy and on the go. Gennie is known for a kind heart and hosting many Sunday dinners. She and Jerry spent as much time as possible at the family summer home above Paris, Idaho boating, camping, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling.
Gennie had a successful real estate career of over 40 years in Cache Valley. She worked for Century 21, N&N Realtors, Gold Key Realty, IHD Real Estate, and Olson Real Estate. If you ever crossed paths with Genie Olson, you were friends forever. She would "bless your heart", call you "sweetheart" and "honey" and say "Oh, I love you'. She was the greatest example of kindness and love.
