Geniel N. Vinson

December 3, 1920 — June 30, 2011

Geniel N. Vinson
12/3/1920 - 6/30/2011

Geniel Nelson Vinson was welcomed to this life December 3, 1920 as one of nine children born to her parents, Joseph and Bertha Johnson Nelson of Richmond, UT. Geniel excelled in many things. She was a wonderful daughter, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend of many. She departed this world June 30, 2011 embraced in the love of her family. The twinkle in her eye was the everlasting charm remaining in the hearts of those who knew her. Her quick wit and sense of humor coupled with a genuine kindness is missed by those with whom their paths crossed.

Geniel was the first daughter; the seventh child in a family that grew to include seven brothers and one sister. She married Arthur Ellis Vinson raising a family of their own which included two sons, two daughters, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She is also dearly missed by a multitude of in-laws and extended family that are better off for having had her in their lives. People in her life were Geniel’s priority. An immaculate home, gardening, and outdoors were her next priority. She had a special passion for fishing; we think it must have been the peace it brings. Plenty of days were spent plying the banks of reservoirs waiting patiently for the surprise of just what might take the bait that day. Geniel worked many years for Utah State University and for Schreiber’s Cheese. Her life was full as she was surrounded by family and friends exchanging stories, playing cards, entertaining youngsters and doing all of it with a smile and a tease.

Geniel was preceded in death by her parents; the love of her life, Art Vinson; her two daughters, Leah (Donald) Phippen and Vickie Vinson and each of her seven brothers, Dean, Merlyn (Maria), Vaughn (Flora), Ferris (Adele), Clain (LaRae), Dallas (Opal), and Zan (Sue) Nelson. She is survived by her sister, Lael (Harold) Arbon of Salinas, CA; two sons, Lynn (Marilyn) Vinson of Farr West, UT and Terry (Carol) Vinson of Kanab, UT; her six grandchildren Frank Vinson of Logan, UT; Teresa Vinson of Idaho Falls, ID; Kim Johnson of Sandy, UT; Kathy Phippen of North Logan, UT; Stacy Phippen of Franklin, ID; Kelly (Brad) Larson of North Logan, UT; her great-grandchildren (Brook, Taylor, Chad, Tanton, Kortni, Nicole, Abby, Connor, Tanner and Haiden) as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Geniel was lucky at cards and at life. The 90 years she spent with the earth were healthy for her. We are grateful that her health was long and her suffering short. We extend our love and gratitude to Geniel’s caregivers, Alpine Hospice, Mary Kay, Mindy, and Dr. Matthew Welter who so lovingly gave of themselves during Geniel’s final battle with age and disease.

We will remember and show our love for Geniel at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Allen Mortuary of North Logan, 420 East 1800 North in North Logan. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Allen Mortuary of North Logan and prior to services at the mortuary on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Geniel’s final place of rest will be in the Richmond, UT Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
