George Pehrson Bradshaw

George Pehrson Bradshaw, born September 16, 1946 died on January 26, 2024, of natural causes. As a young man, George often traveled with his engineer father to foreign countries including  Pakistan, and Afghanistan. George was able to explore many Middle Eastern cities, with Cairo, Egypt being one of his favorites. Young George sought out bazaars and souks where he learned to barter for the local goods. He became quite adept at trading jars of American peanut butter for oriental rugs and other exotic treasures. 

George was a true Renaissance man; he was an excellent artist, and an accomplished pianist. He studied painting in Paris and learned from masters of the art. One of his first jobs as a young adult was selling pianos in Las Vegas. He also worked in the casinos as a card dealer. In his later years, he returned to Logan where he tuned pianos and was a ventriloquist with many puppets.  Each puppet was personally hand-constructed by George. 

A long time Marindale Avenue resident, George loved celebrating Halloween. He would spend months in preparation, planning which of his many costumes he would wear. One memorable Halloween, he greeted trick or treaters as Captain Jack Sparrow! George, with one of his puppets on his knee, laughed as he entertained his young guests.

George was an extravagant and thorough collector. He loved his collections of book series. He had a special affinity for the original Hardy Boys series from the 1930’s. He derisively turned his nose up at the “dumbed down” 1970’s reissued books. Nothing thrilled him more than stumbling upon an early Hardy Boys or Tom Swift in the original jacket. He would enthusiastically describe the excellent condition of his latest rare prize while gesticulating with his long artistic fingers and striding back and forth.

He had a talent for entertaining friends and family. As an entertainer at heart, he thoroughly enjoyed the laughs he received from his shows. 

George's love of classic Hollywood movies, classical music and art, was nurtured and shared by his devoted mother. He adored her and took wonderful care of her until she passed away.

Much of George’s adult world revolved around art. He was a skilled painter and in his spare time, painted beautiful, detailed oil paintings of legendary Hollywoods stars, while listening to his favorite classical music or watching a movie. He worked in downtown Logan as a framer at the Book Table and the Art Stop. George trained many part time employees (usually college students) in the delicate art of choosing and cutting mats and glass, but the more difficult and dangerous task of chopping the frame was George's job alone. Along with framing, George rescued customer's damaged works of art, and broken porcelain figurines, restoring them to near perfect condition. 

As recently as last fall, he was excited about repairing an old pump organ acquired from the east coast. It was his final project. George was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father. He leaves behind many friends and neighbors who loved and treasured his talents and zest for life. Happy trails our dear friend, adieu.
