George Robert Olsen, a lifelong resident of Cache Valley, passed away on
Thursday, August 30, after a brief illness. He was born on May 8, 1922, the
youngest of five sons born to Alma Olsen and Henrietta Adelia Porter Olsen, at
their home in North Logan.
After Adelia was widowed at a young age, she and her sons moved to a
home on Fourth North in Logan where George lived until he married Marjorie
Larsen, also of Logan, on June 12, 1942, in the Logan LDS Temple.
Shortly after their marriage, George enlisted in the Navy and became a
radio signalman. After his return to civilian life he became a letter carrier - a
career he loved for many years until his retirement. He found another way to
share his infectious smile when he became a greeter at Macey's for ten years.
After his second retirement he became an avid fisherman and delighted in
sharing his catch with his neighbors.
He was clerk of the Logan Eleventh Ward for many years and also served as
High Priest Group Leader.
He is survived by his son R. Michael (Mary Anne) of Tucson, Arizona, four
grandchildren - Debra (Robertson), Matt, Karen (Berndt), and Alan - and 15
great-grandchildren as well as a sister-in-law and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, September 4th at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30-10:30 AM. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery following the funeral. Condolences may be sent to the family online a
