Ogden, Utah

George Foutz Thomas

George completed his valiant journey on earth, on Sunday July 14, 2024 at 87 years of age. He was surrounded by love.

George was born on September 1, 1937, to Walter and Florence Thomas in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was raised in Blackfoot, ID, Weber County and the Salt Lake City area.

He served a mission in the East Central States, which included parts of Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia. After his mission, he was drafted into the Korean War. While stationed at Fort Sill Army Base in Lawton, Oklahoma he met his wife, Carmelita Red Elk. They were married on June 21, 1962, and then traveled to Logan, Utah to be sealed in the Logan Temple on June 27, 1962. They just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

George and Carmelita decided that North Logan, Utah would be a good place to raise a family. They raised their family in the same North Logan house for 54 years. He graduated from USU with a Bachelor of Science in Dairy Science. He worked at the USU Caine Dairy Farm for over 40 years. He was a devoted Aggie fan and never gave up on his athletic teams.

George was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He fulfilled his callings faithfully and was a Christ-like example to his posterity.

George had a work ethic incomparable to anyone else. His joy was working. His passions included horse training, with his daughters, gardening and working on his small farm. He was always game to do anything with his family. Together they enjoyed going to Bear Lake, Camping, USU sporting events and any kind of trip together. He will be deeply missed by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Carmelita Red Elk Thomas and his four daughters. Maudrena (Roger) Crummitt, Sharla (Jeremiah) Means, Karen (Ron) Smith and Carrie Lynn (Mark) Jeppesen. He has 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Morgan (Marge), Alton (Tammy) and Neil (Ginger) Thomas. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Edith (Dean) Oborn.

George had a great hospice team that helped to ease the transition. A special thanks to his nurse Ian and aide Angie.

Services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024. A viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 and a funeral at noon. It will be held at the North Logan 10th ward Church Building at 1550 East 1900 North, North Logan, Utah. He will be buried in the North Logan Cemetery with military honors.  Arrangements are with Allen Mortuary of North Logan.
