George Winborg

April 9, 1931 — August 8, 2011

MILLVILLE - George Hovey Winborg, 80, passed away on August 8, 2011 at Terrace Grove Assisted Living where he and his wife have lived the past year and a half.

He was born on April 9, 1931 to George Windsor and Bernice Hovey Winborg and is the oldest of 4 children with three younger sisters. Many happy days were spent growing up on the family farm in Nibley. George learned the value of work and honesty from his dad, loyalty and kindness from his mother and the art of teasing he learned from years of practice with his sisters.

George graduated from South Cache High and joined the Navy in 1951 serving aboard the U.s.s. Bennington. On two separate occasions, explosions rocked the ship due to malfunctions and men lost their lives. He has always had a deep love for our country and taught his family to be patriotic and respectful.

After leaving the Navy in 1954, George worked for Legrand Johnson construction and attended Utah State where he met Pleasy Lewis from Tabiona, Utah. They were married on August 18, 1962 in Logan and were later sealed in the Logan Temple. They spent the first couple of years in Providence, Logan and Bountiful. They purchased their first and only home in Millville where they spent 40 wonderful years raising their family that they love so much. They were surrounded by kind and loving friends and neighbors while being close to the South Field where George spent many hours doing what he called his hobby, running the family farm.

George worked at Hill Air force base for 22 years. After retiring he took a job working for Buttars Tracker delivering farm equipment. He really enjoyed this job. George liked to talk to people and when you can talk about farming and get paid that's a bonus. Pleasy went with him often and this was enjoyable for both. After a falling accident, He once again retired.

George was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many calling but his favorite was Nursery leader with Pleasy for almost 15 years. While raising their family, George taught his children by example how to work, be honest, be reliable and be supportive. He loved supporting their children in their activities at school especially with the Bands at Sky View and then Mountain Crest. George and Pleasy could be found in their truck and camper following where ever the band went. They have also been very supportive Grandparents, going to anything and everything their Grandchildren are involved in.

George is survived by his wife, Pleasy and their 4 childern. Laurie(Darwin)Kitchen, Grant(Kim)Winborg, Gary(Chirley)Winborg, Angie (Robert) Kemp, 17 Grandchildren, 2 sisters Lorna (Dennis) Jensen, Shari (Bill) Green and one adopted brother, J.R. Windley. He was proceeded in death by his parents, and one sister Faye (Reed) Boothe.

The Winborg family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr Mark Firth and his staff, Terrace Grove for their friendship and kindness and Caregivers Support Network Hospice, especially Allie and Brandon for their cheerful attitudes.
