George R. Ackley

April 10, 1928 — February 3, 2010

George Roger Ackley 81, died Wed. Feb. 3, 2010 at the Logan Regional Hospital. He was born April 10, 1928 in Smithfield, Utah to Mary Nelson and Preston J. Ackley.
He attended Cache County Schools, and at a young age traveled to Texas to help his Uncle Clarence.
He served in the army from January 1947 to July 1948.
He married the love of his life, Thelma Gessell, December 4, 1948. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple.
As a young man he loved to play the guitar and sing for his family and friends. He loved fishing and the outdoors. We will never forget the fun and happy adventures we had while camping. He was a carpenter and later a contractor and then worked for Logan City School District.
He is survived by his eternal sweetheart Thelma Gessel Ackley, 1 brother Preston, 2 sons Roger Ackley and Robert Ackley, 2 daughters Pat (Robert) Wendt and Jackie (Rich) Saint, 7 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren and 1 great grandchild due in August.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters Elmyra Gessel and Thora Magee and 1 Brother Paul Ackley.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 in the Smithfield City Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, from 6 to 8 PM at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, located at 34 E. Center Street, Logan Utah, and prior to services at the mortuary from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on Wednesday. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
