Gerald Lloyd Nelson, 91, returned to his loving Father in Heaven on September 21, 2012 surrounded by his family. Gerald was born in Ferron, Utah, March 7, 1921. He was the eldest son of Lloyd and Vera Nelson. He had four siblings: Keith and Don (both deceased), Kaye and Shirley. The family moved to Logan when he was 13 years old.
He met his sweetheart, Joan Madsen, and they were married September 25, 1941 in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of four children: Alan (Eva), Jennae (Ray), Teona (Richard), and Lynn (Laurie). They have 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Gerald learned his carpentry skills from his father and continued to excel in his profession during his lifetime. He built homes all over the valley including helping each of the children with their first homes. Also, buildings on USU campus, remodeling the Logan Tabernacle and temple, building a school in Evanston, WY and the Logan Regional Hospital. Gerald also served in the Navy as a radar specialist in World War II and Korean Conflict.
Gerald served in many callings in his ward and served faithfully as a home teacher. Family was important to him and he was proud of the accomplishments of his children. He taught them all to work hard and enjoy good times together, especially camping. He loved the great outdoors and was able to spend this past Labor Day weekend camping with most of his family.
In 2006, his sweetheart, Joan, passed away. He missed her dearly as they did everything together: family, home building, square dancing, and traveling.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Thursday, September 27, 2012, at the 19th Ward LDS chapel, 1255 N. 600 E., Logan. Friends may call from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan and from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. on Friday, prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be in the Logan Cemetery.
