Geraldean Kent Johnson passed away at the age of 89 at the home of her son, Kent Garth Johnson, in Mantua, Utah, on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
She was born December 5, 1935, in Lewiston, Utah, the youngest daughter of Elbern Ray Kent and Ada Wager. She married her high school sweetheart, Samuel Garth Johnson on June 2, 1954, in the Logan Temple. Garth passed away in 2020, and Geraldean has been living with her daughter Kaylene Sullivan in South Jordan, Utah, since his passing.
Together Geraldean and Garth raised 5 children, Kent Garth (Janice) Johnson, Steven Ray (Anne) Johnson, Kaylene (Stan) Sullivan, Robert Dean (Charon) Johnson, and LeAnne (Mark) Schultz.
Geraldean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was happiest preparing a meal for her family, teaching a grandchild how to read, or sharing pictures and stories of her ancestors from the scrapbooks she created. She had a firm testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and shared it by the way she lived her life. She loved to sing and found great fulfillment in growing a garden and preserving her harvest. She taught all of her children how to work hard and to be industrious.
In her later years she served a family history mission with Garth, and they both became enthusiastic about family history and temple work. They loved serving together for many years in the baptistry at the Jordan River Temple and later at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple.
The last years of her life, she has experienced the effects of dementia and has not been able to recall most things. But she was always good to share a smile and a “thank you” for those who cared for her with love and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Garth Johnson, her siblings, Carma Kent, Lois Kent Holliday, and Richard Dee Kent, and her daughter-in-law, Anne Nelson Johnson.
She is survived by her children, 22 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan, Utah, on Saturday, January 18, at 12:00 noon, with a viewing from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for family and close friends immediately prior to the service. Interment will be at the Lewiston City Cemetery following the memorial service.
