Geraldine Walker Rowberry

LOGAN, UTAH - Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away in Logan, Utah, on January 10, 2008. Gerrie was born in Pleasant Grove, Utah, to Vera and Leo R. Walker—the first born of three children. She graduated from Bear River High School and attended Utah State Agricultural College, where she met John (Jay) Ralph Rowberry. Jay and Gerrie were married May 26, 1942 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together they raised three children in Logan. An active member of the LDS church, Gerrie served in many callings and loved to attend the temple in her later years. She also belonged to the Logan Golf and Country Club Ladies Association.
Gerrie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a great caregiver to her husband Jay when he returned from World War II with injuries. Her home was always a cheerful place where family and friends were always welcome. Her motto was “Try It; You’ll Like It,” regarding the food she served. Her hands were always busy as she attended to the needs of her family and home. Her love of nature and the outdoors was evidenced by her hunting and fishing trips with Jay. Gerrie also had a knack for gardening and loved her beautiful rose garden, as did her neighbors.
After Jay’s retirement, Jay and Gerrie enjoyed extended winter stays in the St. George area for 18 years. Together they acquired new friends and spent countless enjoyable days on the golf course. After Jay’s death in 2002, Gerrie moved to Pioneer Valley Lodge in Logan, making many new friends.
Gerrie’s life has been an inspiration to her family. She is survived by her children, James (Julie) Rowberry of Providence, Carol Anderson of Providence, and Paul (Janice) Rowberry of North Logan; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; a brother, L.R. (Ladene) Walker, of Park City; and a sister-in-law, Jetta (Bob), Bryan of Salt Lake City. Gerrie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jay, and her brother Keith Walker.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2008 at 12 noon at Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan. Friends may call Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Logan Cemetery. Condolences and thoughts may be expressed to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net .
Special thanks to Dr. Robert Nash, Terrace Grove Assisted Living, Sunshine Terrace Rehabilitation, and the IHC Hospital staff for their tender love and care of our mother.
