Gerald Palmer Winn of Paradise , Utah passed away suddenly from natural causes on June 25, 2008 in Avon , Utah . He was 65 years old.
Born March 16, 1943 in Preston , Idaho to Spencer Tanner and Thora Palmer Winn. He grew up in Fairview and Preston , Idaho area and graduated from Preston High School in 1961.
Gerry was always an active person, growing up he was involved in farm work, rodeos and sports such as boxing, baseball and football. He served a mission for the LDS Church in the Eastern Atlantic States from 1962 through 1964. He attended Utah State University and later Ricks College . While pursuing his education he was a member of the Army National Guard and was called to serve in the Vietnam War in 1968 through 1969. His unit was assigned to detonate land mines in Vietnam and he was very blessed in his service there.
In the summer of 1964, Gerry met the love of his life, Carol Ann Tippetts. He and Carol were married on April 1, 1966 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple prior to his service in Vietnam . They have four children: Melissa, Jason, Meredith, Spencer, and five beautiful
grandchildren: Riley, Madison, Gavin, Braeden and Caden.
Gerry has been active in the LDS Church all his life and has served in many leadership positions. He loves the gospel and done very well in the service of the Lord.
He was an active member of the Paradise Lions Club and at one time served as the President. He was an original member of the Trout & Berry Days committee and faithfully served on that committed for several years. Gerry was also a member of the Paradise Town Council from January 2004 until the present time.
He loved his children and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and riding horses, and watching National Rodeos. Everyone enjoyed talking to Gerry and being a part of his life. Everyone was a friend to Gerry and he spent his life in the service of others.
He was a man of respect and with a good sense of humor. Everyone will miss hearing Gerry laugh and tell stories. He is loved by many, many people. His family will greatly miss him, especially the grandkids since he is the life of their party.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Carol; father, Spencer Tanner Winn of Preston , Idaho ; children: Melissa (Nephi) Julian of Bunkerville, Nevada , Jason (Amy) Winn of Paradise, Utah; Meredith Winn of St George, Utah , and Spencer Winn of Logan , Utah and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thora Palmer Winn and brother, Kevin Spencer Winn.
The family wishes to express many thanks for all who aided him at the time of his passing and those who have offered thoughts and prayers in our behalf.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 28, 2008 in the Paradise LDS 4th Ward chapel (155 East 9400 South, Paradise ). Friends and family may call at Allen-Hall Mortuary on Friday, June 27th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 AM. Interment with military honors will be in the Avon, Utah Cemetery under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
