GILBERT HAWS PETERSON
PETERSBORO, UTAH: On March 25, 2012 Gilbert Haws Peterson, 89, formerly of Petersboro, passed away at home. He will leave a void in all of our lives, but he is once again with his sweetheart, Renee.
Dad was born May 18, 1922 to Oliver and Neveva Haws Peterson in Petersboro, Utah. He grew up on the family farm with five brothers and two sisters.
He was married to Renee Wyatt on July 18, 1943 in San Diego, California and later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They moved into the family home in Petersboro, Utah in 1949.
Dad proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in California, Virginia and New Guinea. He was proud to be a sailor and loved his country.
He was well known for his ability to repair or construct any project that was required, either at work or in his shop. Among his other accolades were that of farmer, shop foreman at USU Utah Water Research Lab, the ‘Mayor’ of Petersboro and the best DAD around. He taught us all how to treat one another by his example. His quiet demeanor and kind ways always made it a pleasure to be with him. His ‘smiling blue eyes’ was an indication of either being very happy or full of mischief.
Dad and Mom had 68 years together. It was a marriage that was an example to each of us. You always knew that they would be together wherever they went, whether it be snowmobiling, camping or boating. It must have been a happy reunion after being apart for only 79 days.
He was a faithful member of the LDS church, serving in many positions including Bishopric, Young Men, Sunday School and the High Priests.
Dad was preceded in death by his wife Renee and infant son, Gilbert. He is survived by his children Bonnie Speth (Jack, deceased), Martin (Louise), Juliann Ohlwiler (Alan, deceased), Richard (Terrie), and Robert (Cindy). He is survived by 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Lucille (Gene) Clark. His parents, five brothers, one sister, one grandson and two son-in-laws preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 12 Noon at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held at 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 28th and 10:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday prior to services. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
