Gladys Beckert Johnson, 94, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2012. She was born December 11, 1917, in Providence , Utah , the youngest of six children of Ernest Richard and Elsa Camilla Weber Beckert. Her mother passed away of the 1918 flu when Gladys was only 1-1/2 years old. She was raised by her father and older sisters in Providence and attended South Cache High School and LDS seminary in Hyrum. She graduated from Collegiate Beauty School in 1937.
Gladys married Dwain Johnson on September 14, 1938, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple . They were married for 64 years before his passing. She served in many capacities in the LDS Church , mainly in the Primary organization, teaching and as secretary for over 20 years, and was also a visiting teacher and temple worker at the Logan Temple .
Gladys helped her husband on the farm for many years. They also ran Johnson’s Drive-In and store. She enjoyed traveling with Dwain especially in Europe and Hawaii . She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her house was homey and decorated with many lovely things and beautiful flowers which she loved. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and housekeeper, and she loved to quilt in her later years.
She is survived by one son and four daughters, Kurt (Marie) Johnson of Bountiful, Nancy Hilden of North Logan, Donna (William) Hansen of Sandy, Bonnie (Glenn) Bair of College Ward, and Kaylene (Don) Skanchy of Brinnon, Washington, and also one sister, Elsie Fuhriman of Ogden. She has 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and two brothers. Her sister, Elsie Fuhriman, is the last sibling living at 95 years of age and is still bowling.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30, at the Mendon 4th Ward Chapel, 20 North 100 West, Mendon , Utah . A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Logan, and an additional viewing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday at the Mendon 4th Ward Chapel.
