Glen O. Jenson, 85, of Logan, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025 peacefully at his home in Logan.

I wrote the following sketch of my life because I was there, and this is what I want read at my funeral. I had the privilege of living on this earth for 85 years. Life has been a wonderful experience. Some ups and downs, but overall life has treated me very well. I have met and associated with some super wonderful friends and professional colleagues. It has been very comforting to me to know there is life after this life and that marriages and families are eternal. I celebrated my 59th wedding anniversary. Wedding anniversaries were my favorite celebrations.

I was born to two wonderful parents, Orvil Monson and Marva Sorensen Jenson on July 31, 1939, in Logan, Utah. I grew up with five great siblings: Jeanene J. Hansen (Paul-deceased), Martin W. Jenson-deceased (Kaylene), Karl S. Jenson-deceased (Dixie), Lloyd M. Jenson (Aziele), and Steven C. Jenson (Jana).

I spent the first 19 years of my life living and working on the family’s dairy farm in Amalga, Utah. Dad owned a herd of 50 to 60 Holstein cows along with many acres of rich farmland. I learned and developed a strong work ethic, planting and harvesting crops like alfalfa, corn, sugar beets, and grains of all kinds. I spent hours and hours hauling hay and straw to the cows and then hauling away the by-products of those cows. I loved growing up in a small rural community that supported each other and valued children and youth.

After graduating from North Cache High School in 1957, I attended a quarter at Utah State University. I was also employed as a receiving clerk for CAL Pack and an apprentice carpenter before serving a two-year mission in the Northern States Mission. The mission was a life-changing experience for me. After returning home, I once again enrolled at USU and found interest in studying Sociology, Social Work, and Education.

During my college years, I became involved in campus service and social organizations and met a wonderful girl named Kathylene Howard, who was also a student at USU. Both of us were active in student affairs, and we found college life very pleasant and rewarding. We were married in the Logan Temple on June 3, 1965, The day before we both graduated with baccalaureate degrees. During our marriage, we were blessed with four amazing children: Jennifer Kunzler (Brian), G. Eric Jenson (Marianne), David (deceased), and Natalie Shurtliff (Jon). Kathy and I are blessed with 12 delightful grandchildren and hopefully lots of great-grandchildren.

Being a husband, father, and grandfather has given me great pleasure and much enjoyment. Kathy and I are thankful to be eternal partners, parents, and grandparents.

I pursued additional graduate education and completed an MS degree in Social Work from the University of Utah in 1967 then accepted a position as a Marriage and Family Therapist with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1967–1969). I enjoyed assisting people with relationship difficulties and assisting church leaders where requested.

Late in 1969, I accepted a position as a lecturer and potential PhD candidate in Family Sociology at Utah State University. Upon completion of the PhD in 1974, I was offered a position in the Department of Family and Human Development and as Utah’s first Extension Family Life Specialist. I served as Department Head (1980–1984), and served on several state and national Extension educational committees. I retired from USU in 2002. I loved my career positions with the LDS Church, Utah State University, and the students and colleagues with whom I worked. They were wonderful colleagues and lifelong friends.

I have always been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have served as Bishop, Stake President, Area Seventy, and Senior Missionary. Kathy and I enjoyed serving together as Counselor and Assistant to the Matron in the Nauvoo Illinois Temple Presidency, and President and Matron of the Logan Temple. At the time of my death, I was a sealer in the Logan Temple. During the years of temple service, Kathy and I met and mingled with many of God’s choicest children and Church leaders.

We are thankful for our testimonies of Jesus Christ and knowledge of the truthfulness of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are looking forward to someday soon serving once again as missionaries for the Savior on the other side of the veil.

I would like to express my thanks to the many kind people at the Infusion Services at Logan Regional Hospital, as well as my doctors at the Logan Gossner Cancer Center and the Huntsman Cancer Institute who provided such excellent care during my fight with cancer. I have so appreciated the love and care shown to me by the Intermountain Hospice Team. A special thank you to Aaron Warren & Darron Fletcher for their care during my final weeks.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, doing temple or family history work, or finding someone to serve.
