Glenda Riggs Sorensen, 90, died while surrounded by her family on July 7, 2015, in Logan, Utah.
Glenda was born in Wellsville, Utah, August 29, 1924. She was the third child and only daughter of Merrill Leishman Green and Eva Wyatt Green.
Glenda’s early life was spent helping her father, mother, and brothers on the farm. She could do it all, even riding the derrick horse. Through these experiences, she learned the value of hard work.
She had wonderful friends growing up. Many of these friendships lasted a lifetime, and Glenda cherished these childhood memories and ongoing associations.
Glenda married Dean Jones Riggs, a farm boy from Wellsville, on April 5th, 1944, in the Logan LDS Temple. Their home was blessed with the birth of four boys: ValDean, Paul, Clyde, and Lyle. Dean and Glenda purchased the Riggs family farm, and there she and Dean raised and cared for their family. With her husband and boys by her side, Glenda continued to work hard. She instilled in her children an appreciation and understanding of hard work. That legacy of hard work, however, is mixed with an appreciation for humor, and her wry comebacks made her family smile until the day she passed away.
Dean died on June 29, 1986. Glenda later married Grant S. Sorensen for time in the LDS temple on September 5, 1992. They enjoyed 15 years of traveling and working together in the Logan temple. Grant died on March 6, 2007.
Glenda was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many church positions and was a dedicated temple worker throughout her lifetime. She had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She followed the Savior’s example and served her fellowman; many felt the blessings of her compassionate service. Glenda loved doing genealogy work, preserving her life experiences in journals, and creating many detailed Books of Remembrance for her sons and family. Glenda blessed the lives of others, and she will be greatly missed.
Glenda is survived by her four sons, ValDean (Marie), Paul (Lynette), Clyde (Susan), and Lyle (Becky), 18 grandchildren, and 43 great-grandchildren. Two brothers remain: Merrill Green (Norene) and Fred Green (Janice). A brother, Earl Green, and his wife (Evelyn) preceded her in death. She is also survived by Grant’s three children: Jay Sorensen (Cecilia), Lynn Sorensen (Vicki), and Shelley Bird (Gorden [deceased]).
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 13, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the Logan 29th ward chapel, 792 North 500 East. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, prior to services at the church.
