Gloyd Lamar Bennett

July 2, 1927 — May 7, 2014

Gloyd LaMar Bennett, age 86, of Cottonwood Heights, Utah died on May 7, 2014. Gloyd passed away at Alta Ridge Alzheimer's Community where he received excellent care for this debilitating disease. Before Alta Ridge he was cared for by family members for a number of years.
Gloyd was born on July 2, 1927 in Cleveland, Idaho to Aroet Bennett and Hannah Dalton.
Gloyd married his sweetheart Geraldine Smith on November 19, 1945 and was sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah Temple on January 5, 1948.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Geraldine, four brothers, 2 sisters, daughter Pamela Cartwright, and daughter-in-law Vicki Bennett.
He is survived by a sister Roma Merrill, Soda Springs, Idaho; two sons and one daughter; Roger (Annette) Bennett, Cottonwood Heights, Utah; Louise (William) Smith, Naples, Florida; Robert (Tori) Bennett, Heber City, Utah; 17 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. Gloyd and Jerry sponsored Gretel Schmier from Germany and consider her and her family as their own. Gretel married Steven Anderson (Syracuse, Utah) giving them two more grandsons and 7 great- grandchildren.
Gloyd enjoyed many years of farming in Thatcher, Idaho. During this time he also learned the skill of making cheese, drove school bus and worked at Monsanto Chemical from which he retired. They then moved to Logan, Utah where he worked for Moore's Business Forms. Gloyd, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, enjoyed many church callings, but perhaps the two he enjoyed the most was as a temple worker and his years spent in scouting. Gloyd loved all sports, but especially loved to fish and hunt with his family.
Gloyd was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 East Center Street in Logan. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the mortuary and prior to the services on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 AM. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
