Golden Forsberg

LOGAN, UTAH: Goldie passed peacefully on Friday, Oct. 11 in Boise, Idaho, after a long illness. Our Father, brother, Grandpa and friend will be in our hearts forever and very much missed.
Goldie was born in Daniels, Idaho, Sept. 1, 1920 to Frank Louis Forsberg and Margritha Gilgen Forsberg . He was the 11th of 11 children. His father moved the family back to Cache Valley where he remained most of his life. He and his twin brother, Sylvan, were the first in Logan to volunteer for service in the navy in WWII. Goldie served in the Panama Canal area for about 4 years. During that time he was injured with a broken hip and had to have it fused later in life. And, true to his industrious and adaptive nature, continued to drive using his left foot for the pedals, sliding his stiff right leg over the car’s center console and off he went.
Goldie served in the LDS church under different callings in younger life and was known as ‘someone you only have to ask once and you know it will get done’ kind of guy.
He was also mayor of Nibley for a while in the 70’s when he decided that the town needed a new water system and one way to do it was to get elected mayor and get the job done.
He worked most of his life as an auto mechanic and soon had a long line of loyal customers who would bring their cars from miles around just so Goldie could work on them. After about 35 years he decided he’d had enough of fixing cars and went to work for Weather Shield in their maintenance department. This was a job that he thoroughly enjoyed, using his endless talent for fixing and building. He worked until he retired a few years later.
He was a great teacher, could be generous to a fault and stern and thoughtful. Goldie was a no nonsense kind of guy, who lived his life with honor and integrity, and with a sincere, deep and abiding love for his family and a deep faith in God.
Goldie was preceded in death by his wife, Fern (Mauchley), and son Larry Forsberg. He leaves a daughter, Gene F. Williams, son, Ernest J. (Ernie) Forsberg, and daughter Diane Forsberg, 12 grandchildren 21 1/2 great-grandchildren, and brother, Leo Forsberg. Go with our love, our Dad, our Grandpa and our friend. Be at peace.
Friends and family may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street, Logan, UT, Friday Oct. 18th from 6pm – 8 pm .
