Gordon Churchill

November 12, 1945 — June 10, 2013

Gordon Churchill, beloved husband, father, gramps brother and friend, died June 10, 2013 doing one of the many things he loved; riding his Harley.
Gordon was born in Logan, Utah to Lyman Edward and Lorna Adamson Churchill on November 12, 1945 in Logan, Utah. He was the only son and grew up in River Heights teasing his four sisters, Tamera, Sandra, Janice and Terrilyn. He attended Cache County Schools and was a star athlete at South Cache High School being awarded all-state honors in both football and wrestling. He went on to play football on a full ride scholarship at Weber State where he was a starter three years as an outside linebacker and was Honorable Mention All-American his senior year.
Gordon married his high school sweetheart, Arlene Hansen, on December 16, 1966 and they were blessed with three incredible daughters, of whom Gordon was extremely proud; Kimberly (deceased), April (Anthony) Marinaro, Raleigh, NC; Danielle Churchill (Mike Hall), San Diego, California. The newest loves, and bright shining stars,in his life were his grand daughters Talia and Gianna Marinaro. Talia could often be heard saying, "Come on Gramps old boy." And off they would be to whatever adventure she had planned. He was putty in her hands.
Professionally Gordon spent thirty years teaching and coaching at Sky View High School. He particularly loved teaching sociology and coaching football. He made many lasting friendships while there and influenced many, many lives.
He was a man of integrity and when he said he was going to do something, he meant it. He had a work ethic to be admired, and played only after his work was accomplished. He was always willing to provide a helping hand to anyone in need, and went out of his way to do so. He planted a beautiful garden every year that was envied by many and provided us with the fresh vegetables that he so loved.
He had many hobbies, and some that changed as he grew. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, but as he aged he realized he preferred to look at the beauty of a deer instead. He loved fishing and wanted to fish the Snake River one more time. He found great joy in his 4-wheeler and most recently his Harley. The friends he held dear shared many of his experiences. Football was always a favorite, and he treasured the college games he was able to see and the experiences he had on those trips. He loved to travel and particularly loved road trips. A second cross country road trip was being planned.
Gordon's greatest love was his family. He loved his daughters
with ever fiber of his being and we always knew it. He was our rock and in the forty seven years of our Life together we women knew he always had our interests first and foremost. His grand daughters were his new passion, and never ceased to bring a smile to his face. He talked about them to anyone willing to listen.
Gordon was -proceeded in death by his beloved eldest daughter Kimberly, his parents, his in-laws, Bill and Norma Hansen, and a beloved brother-in-law , Nate Robinson.
.
He is survived by his wife Arlene; daughters April (Anthony) Marinaro, and Danielle Churchill (Mike Hall) , grand daughters Talia and Gianna Marinaro; sisters Tamera (Chuck) Vegos, Sandra (Dale)Merrill, Janice (Jerry) Gardner, and Terilyn. He is also survived by most of the Hansen family who considered him their brother. He has many, many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family as well.
