Gregory A. Nielsen

July 17, 1951 — February 12, 2017

Gregory Alan Nielsen, 65, of Hyrum, died peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family onSunday, February 12, 2017. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer only a short while ago, Greg spentevery one of his final days just as he had all the previous sixty five years- setting an example of strength, bravery, and fulfillment for his family. Greg was born July 17, 1951, and is the youngest child of N. Blaine and Iris Oaks Nielsen. He spent his youth working on the family farm and had a lifelong love of hunting and fishing. Greg married his best friend and the love of his whole heart, Pauline Drury Nielsen, on March 19, 1974, in the Logan LDS Temple. Together, Greg and Pauline raised a beautiful family, adventurously traveled the world, and created memories that will last through eternity. Greg graduated from Utah State University and Salt Lake Community College, and owned and operated Jensen Motor Co. of Hyrum. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints, Greg was always willing to serve. Whether during his mission to Norway, or his time as Bishop of the Hyrum 12th Ward and the Hyrum 2nd Ward, or all the other church positions he held, Greg was always ready and willing to go to work and fulfill any assignment given him. Greg was a loyal friend with a kind and gentle soul and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a hard worker who loved nature and was an avid gardener. Greg spent countless hours in his garden tending his soil and his plants. From his delicious white corn, green beans, raspberries, and beyond, Greg was happy to share the fruits of his labor with everyone. His “Nielsen Family Gardens” stand at the local farmers market allowed him to share his gardening talent with even more people and make many cherished friends. Above all, Greg’s greatest treasure was his family. His beloved wife, four children, Chris (Shawna) Nielsen, Lyndsey (Jeremy) Cook, Alison (Michael) Huston, and Katie (Matt) Milligan, along with his ten grandchildren, brought him immense joy. He is, and forever will be, deeply missed by each member of his family. Greg is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and his four siblings Steven, Nancy, Brent, and Susan. Greg was preceded in death by his parents.
