Guy Ray Pulsipher

AVON, UTAH - Guy Ray Pulsipher, age 80, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on a beautiful Sunday afternoon surrounded by his family at home on October 31, 2010.

He was born August 15, 1930 a son of Leland Guy and Ila M Eliason Pulsipher in River Heights, UT. His first years was spent in River Heights and Hyrum before moving to Avon, where he spent the rest of his life.

He married his high school sweetheart, Janet Griffin on July 21st, 1950. They were able to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this year with family. Together they had 4 children, Dennis (Helen), Roger (Colette), Cordell (Reta), and Debbie (Stan). He had 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. There was nothing greater that pleased him more than his family.

He graduated from South Cache where he served as Student body President. He then attended Utah State University where he graduated in Elementary Education and administration. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

He started his school career in Smithfield in 1954 and after 3 years they asked him to move to River Heights Elementary, where he taught sixth grade and was a full-time principal for 13 years. He then served as principal at Wellsville Elementary for 6 years and finished his last 13 years at Providence Elementary.

He was a member of the army reserve and later retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Extraordinary is a word that truly exemplifies the level of service that dad performed. He was a member of the Paradise Lions Club, Board Member on the Porcupine Reservoir, Board Member of the Sunshine Terrace Foundation, Served on the Planning and Zoning Committee, and was a Member of the Cache County School Board.

Following his retirement, Guy Ray & Janet served a mission to Seoul Korea. When they returned Guy Ray was called to be bishop of his LDS ward. They also served at the LDS temple. Dad has always been very active in the church serving in many callings.

Dad’s passion in life included education, his country, spending time with his family, attending Big Blue Sports, people and living in Avon. His listening ear, outstretched hand, and dedication to the communities around Cache Valley have been felt by literally thousands of people. We love you and will miss you greatly Dad!

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great children. Sisters Renee Sorensen and Ludene(Rudy) Bonnell. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Richard (Dick)Pulsipher, Sister Gloria Thornley, brother-in-law Navee Thornley, brother-in-law Allen Sorensen, nephew Blake Thornley, and niece Robyn Pulsipher.

Funeral services will be held on November 5, 2010 at 12 noon in the Paradise 1st & 4th Ward (new church) 155 E 9400 S Paradise with Bishop James Clawson conducting. There will be a viewing on Thursday, November 4, 2010 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street in Logan and on Friday from 10:00 – 11:30 AM prior to services at the church.
