“Oh no! I just KNOW that all these children are going to chase me!!” Every eye in the room, adult and kid alike, turned to see the 75-year-old man who’d barely walked into the home. There were well over a dozen kids gathered for the family event, many of whom didn’t yet know the older man in the doorway with the mile-wide smile on his face. Each kid, however, knew one thing: the chase was on!
H. John Dickson knew how to make people smile. He could strike up a conversation and put you right at ease. Little kids especially gravitated toward him.
John, born March 26, 1928 in Heber City, Utah loved to explore the world around him. “What’s around that next bend?” he’d always ask. His adventurous spirit led him to try many different jobs over the years, from New York City cab driver to merchant marine, before settling into his career as a pharmacist.
John loved God, he loved his family, and he loved his fellow man. He was forever rushing off to rescue others. He was the one you called in the middle of the night if you needed advice. John was the one who’d drop everything and come running no matter when. He spent his life serving others, including in his many church callings as a stalwart member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He married Helen Maxwell in 1952, and the couple had three children together. They later divorced. John then married Marilyn Rohner on May 29, 1971 (becoming a second father to her four children), and together they had two children. John is survived by his sweetheart Marilyn, their nine children, 29 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
