HC Heninger

"The Big Fisherman"

Harold Charles Heninger passed away in the early hours of June 3, 2006 at Logan Regional Hospital just after his 4 year old grandson prayed "Bless Jesus to come and make him alive again." Trevor’s prayer was answered and grandpa’s body, weakened by pain and disease, was released from his mortal journey. We’re sure he’s already found the best fishing spot in Heaven.

Dad was born in Los Angeles, CA on December 28, 1928 to Harold Fifield Heninger and Beatrice Wendleboe. From the age of 5 he was raised in River Heights by his sweet grandmother Naomi. His early years taught him to be resourceful and to not rely on anyone else for success in life. He became a self-made business man in Dry Cleaning, pawn shops, bail bonding, movie theaters, and recreational real estate development to name just a few.

Harold met Doris Florence Wolford in the 7th grade. It was love at first sight and they married August 4, 1950 in the Logan Temple. Soon afterwards, he answered the call of duty to his country and served honorably for two years in Korea with the National Guard. When he returned, he resumed his life with Mom and together they began an adventure that endured 56 years. Eventually their lives were blessed (and challenged!) with three daughters. Life got even better and more interesting with the added blessings of six grandchildren.

Dad graduated from Logan High School and then earned advanced degrees from The School of Hard Knocks. Even without much formal education and odds stacked against him, he accomplished in his life what most people only dream about doing.

HC is survived by his wife, Doris, and daughters: Kathryn Lucille Heninger ("Lu Lu"), Beatrice DeAnn Johnson ("Aunt Bea"), and Alison Kay (husband - Stan) Bodily, all of Logan. His legacy lives on as well in his grand kids David and Meghan Johnson, and Ivy Ann, Justin, Kevin, and Trevor Bodily. He also leaves behind brothers Brent Heninger and Jim Elsmore, a sister Maureen Elsmore Hansen, numerous cousins, a diverse assortment of fishing buddies, and many friends that will miss his quick wit, fishing secrets, and loyal companionship.

A gathering for family and friends will be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary (34 East Center St., Logan) Friday, June 9, 2006 from 6 to 8 pm. We’ll continue the celebration of his life the following morning from 9:30-10:30. A funeral service will then be conducted at the mortuary by Stake Patriarch Reed Gunnell, a cousin to HC, beginning at 11:00. After inspiring words and uplifting music we will inter dad’s remains in the Logan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, promise to take a loved one fishing for a day! Perhaps one of you could become the next "Big Fisherman - A Legend in My Own Mind." Condolences may be extended to the family by going to www.allenmortuaries.net .
You’re gone.
What does that mean?
There’s an ache
and an emptiness
where your love
and laughter
once were.
We’ll meet again.
Of that we’re sure.
But for now,
you’re gone
and we’re left to carry on.
