Harvey Stephen Hansen, Logan, Utah, age 96, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014, from natural causes at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah. He was born October 5, 1917 at Mink Creek, Idaho to John Micarl and Johannah Elizabeth Hansen. He attended school in Mink Creek. From 1940 to 1942 he served as an LDS missionary in the Texas and Louisiana Mission where he served for several months without purse or script. He married his sweetheart, Myrle Nelson Radford, in the Logan LDS Temple on November 19, 1943. One month later he was drafted and served in the Navy in the Atlantic and the Pacific on destroyer escorts during World War II from 1943-46. After his honorable discharge he worked on many farms for several years. He then worked for the John Deere Plow Company and then the Preston Implement Company in Preston, Idaho, for 16 years. He built a home in Preston. He then worked for Thiokol in Logan, Utah, for 15 years when he was forced to retire at age 65 due to a blood clot in his lungs. Myrle passed away from diabetes after 28 years of marriage. A year later Harvey married Geri Grossman in the Logan Temple. After 15 years of marriage she died of lung cancer. He was a member of the American Legion for several years. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in his High Priest group and as a temple worker. He loved woodworking and other crafts. His happiest moments were spent with his wives, children, step-children and grandchildren.
Harvey is survived by his children, Loma Kay Hansen, Sandy, Utah; James Hansen, St. Anthony, Idaho; Julie (Gary) Perkes, Preston, Idaho; Laura (David) McDonald, Smithfield, Utah; Ronald (Karen) Hansen, Smithfield; Carol (George) Curtis, Enid, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren and a brother Gene Hansen, Mesa, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Kathleen, three brothers, Homer, Jed and Delmar (Duke) and three sisters, Leona, Ruby, and Afton and a grandson, Stephen Griffeth.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1st at the Allen Mortuary, 420 E 1800 N, North Logan, Utah at noon. The viewing will be from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery at 300 E and East Center Street in Smithfield, Utah. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at
