Helen Gordon Jones, 85, slipped peacefully from this life returning to her Heavenly Father early Sunday morning, April 21, 2013. She came into this mortal world on October 17, 1927, welcomed by her parents Bert Gordon and Sarah Ann Bowen and her sister, Ruth.
Helen spent her childhood in Salt Lake City and Bountiful, Utah, where she fostered friendships lasting a lifetime. After graduating from Davis High School in 1946, she attended the University of Utah. She was extremely proud of her brief career as a clerk in the Davis County Court. As an avid reader and accomplished pianist, she was a devotee of literature and classical music.
On September 10, 1948, she and her sweetheart, Max J Jones, were married for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Their first years of marriage were spent in Bountiful welcoming two sons, Gordon Steven and Robert Max. After moving to Wellsville, a daughter, Camille, and another son, Spencer Kimball, completed their family.
Our devoted Mom was first and foremost a wife, mother, and grandmother. She lovingly spent countless hours supporting her children and grandchildren in various activities, filling her life and theirs with happiness and satisfaction.
As a disciple of Christ and an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she derived great pleasure in serving her Savior and fellowmen. She held many positions in the auxiliaries of the church and was blessed with an abundance of spiritual gifts and Christ-like attributes. Together with Dad, she served a full-time mission to Florida. They were also ordinance workers in the Logan Temple. After Dad’s passing, she continued to serve in the Logan Temple. She spent many happy hours as a part-time missionary serving for six years at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.
Mom was blessed with wonderful neighbors and friends with whom she shared numerous joyful experiences, including membership in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Peter Maughan Camp.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents; sisters, Ruth and Ida; her brother, Billy; and a grandson. She is survived by her children: Steven (Susan) Yuba City, California; Rob (Rose Mary) Millville, Utah; Camille (Mike) Perkes, Wellsville, Utah; and Spencer (Tyra) Farmington, Utah; two stepsons, Curtis (Pam) Wilker, Crested Butte, Colorado; Craig (Janice) Wilker, Grace, Idaho; 19 grandchildren, and 49 great grandchildren.
A viewing is scheduled Friday evening, April 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center in Logan, UT. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, April 27, at the Wellsville LDS Chapel, 660 South 100 West, Wellsville, UT, with a viewing prior to the services from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
