Henrietta Henderson Nelson
Henrietta Henderson Nelson, 93, died peacefully March 13, 2011, in Logan, Utah. She was born January 16, 1918, in Arimo, Idaho, to Henry J. and Rebecca Henderson Nelson. She was a long time resident of Logan where she lived with her sister Mary near the University. Henrietta and Mary were both highly educated and both worked for many years at Utah State University where Henrietta worked in the Controller’s office and Mary as a professor of advanced mathematics. Henrietta was preceded in death by her three sisters; Rebecca Henderson Nelson Christiansen (Jerald), Mary Henderson Nelson, and Helen Henderson Nelson Hatch (William J “Bill”).
Henrietta lived a remarkable life and loved to travel the world with Mary and then come back to her wonderful, cozy home and garden. Her favorite places to visit were Australia and New Zealand where she went many times. She filled her home with Hummel figurines that she and Mary collected from trips to Europe.
She loved the springtime when the flowers would spring up and fill the air with their sweet fragrance and she could plant her garden in anticipation of a later harvest. She greatly enjoyed working outside and talking with neighbors and friends. She didn’t like winter because it kept her from going out.
In January of 1997, an accidental fire burned her home down and a few short weeks later her beloved sister, Mary, passed away. It was a rough time for her and since then, Henrietta has lived in Williamsburg Assisted Living Center, Terrace Grove Assisted Living Center and Sunshine Terrace. A special thanks to all of those in these facilities who have attended to her needs over the past 14 years and who have experienced, like us, her wonderful spirit and humor and maybe even a few times when she got a little gruff. Those encounters usually ended with that sly and crooked smile of hers letting you know that things were okay and that she loved and appreciated you!
She was a very special lady and is survived by her 5 nephews and 1 niece and will be greatly missed by all those who loved and knew her. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Friends may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary located at 34 E. Center Street in Logan, UT on Thursday March 17 from 10:00-10:45 am. for a viewing with short services to follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Arimo, Idaho city cemetery at 3:00 pm.
