Henry Wolters Clarke, age 87, passed away on September 5, 2013 at Logan Regional Hospital due to stroke.
Henry was born on December 19, 1925 in Park City, Utah to Calvin Alexander and Wilhelmina Marie Wolters Clarke. About 1 year later, they moved to Grover, Wayne county, Utah where he spent his childhood. He graduated from Wayne High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. He fought in Germany and Japan. Upon returning, he went to college in Cedar City for two years.
He was then called on a LDS mission to the Texas-Louisiana mission. While on his mission he began writing to a young lady friend of one of the members in Louisiana. Upon returning from his mission, he went to Oregon and met her. After a four day courtship he proposed to Elanore Louise Jones and they were married in the Manti Temple 3 months later on March 21, 1951. They have been deeply in love with each other for the last 62 years.
After a brief try at ranching in Wayne county, they moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, Elanore’s hometown, where he worked in the lumber mills until 1959 when a lumbering accident nearly killed him. He then decided to go and finish his education. After two years he graduated and became an elementary school teacher, an occupation that he loved for the next 25 years.
After retirement, Henry and Elanore served a LDS mission in the same area as Henry’s first mission, the Houston Texas East mission serving in Houston and Louisiana. Nearly one year later while serving in Louisiana he had a heart attack and had bypass surgery. They returned to Oregon and decided to move to Utah to be closer to family. They have lived in North Logan for the last 19 years.
He has been a very faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS and has served in numerous callings. He has been a loving, supportive husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed. His humor, work ethic, positive attitude, sense of gratitude, and faith will be his eternal legacy.
He is survived by his wife, Elanore and children, Derrel (Eileen) Clarke of Logan, Cecelia (Bruce) Pearson of San Antonio, Tx, Oren (Julie) Clarke of Hilo, Hawaii; two brothers Calvin (Gloria) Clark and Emmett (Veola) Clark, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bertha Clegg, and daughter, Denise.
