Hope (Herd) Hymas 83, passed away surrounded by her loving husband and children in North Logan, Utah on November 24, 2023. Hope was born on February 11, 1940, in Grace Idaho. She was the daughter of Kermit James and Elsie Larsen Herd. She was raised by her loving parents in Preston, Idaho, and moved her Sophomore year to Logan, Utah.
Hope had many friends growing up and loved swimming and spending time with friends. She enjoyed working as a chocolate candy maker at the Bluebird Candy shop on Main Street. She met and married her High School Sweetheart Gary Lynn Hymas on August 2, 1957 in Logan, Utah. They were later sealed in the Ogden, Utah LDS Temple. Shortly after getting married, they moved to California to work and start their family. Their first child Shelly was born in California. After a short time, they returned to Logan and welcomed Allen, Lisa and Kim to complete their family.
Hope and Gary made their home in Logan, Utah next to their parents Delca and Ernest Hymas and had many wonderful family experiences. Hope and Gary’s sweet marriage and devotion to one another has been an example to many. Gary was an amazing caretaker to Hope. To the very last moment of Hope’s earthly life, they were holding hands with one another. Hope and Gary bought and owned R&G Drive Inn in Smithfield, Utah and they ran the Drive Inn for 30 years where everyone at the Drive Inn adored Hope as she was the glue that held it together. Hope and Gary were a great team together with just the right amount of sugar and spice. She loved her R&G family. Hope loved the Holidays!!!! She loved to dress up for Halloween, Christmas Bingo and Easter Egg games. They were always a big hit with everyone. They are lasting traditions that Hope started and her Children and Grandchildren still celebrate today.
Hope loved sports, especially football. She was a big Aggie, and Skyline Eagles fan. She loved to support and attend her Children’s and Grandchildren’s sporting events and attended many dance recitals and activities over the years.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a faithful visiting teacher, friend, and neighbor to many. She also loved her calling as the activities chairman for the Relief Society. Hope loved crafts, she was always thinking of the next decoration to make. She was a talented seamstress and made a great deal of her children’s clothing and quilts for her children and grandchildren over the years that they will cherish. She loved her family with all her heart and made them all feel so special and loved.
Hope is survived by her loving husband, Gary Lynn Hymas, her son, Allen Hymas (Laurie), Daughters Lisa Lundahl (Jeff) and Kim Bertagnolli (Joel Stahn), 16 Grandchildren 28 Great Grandchildren with one great-great grandchild on the way. Hope was proceeded in death by her daughter, Shelly Lynn Klomp and her parents Kermit James and Elsie Marie Herd; three infant brothers and Sisters Sharon Bright, Gay Abbott, and Brother Kermit Herd Junior.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 2nd at 12 Noon at the LDS 15th Ward Chapel, 125 W. 600 N. Logan. A viewing will be held the evening prior from 6-8pm at Allen-Hall Mortuary 34 E. Center Street Logan and also from 10-11:30 prior to services at the LDS Ward Chapel. Burial will be in the Logan Cemetery. Services under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. The family wishes to thank all of the angels in Hope's life and the staff of Maple Springs and the Logan Hospice team.
