Horton (Hart) Nish
LOGAN, UTAH: Our dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend completed his journey here on earth July 24, 2009 at his son’s home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, surrounded by family.
Hart was born August 26, 1912 in Plymouth, Utah to Robert Tims and Jane W. Hess Nish. He was was 96 years old. He was the fifth of ten children. He attended school in Plymouth and at Bear River High School. On July 11, 1936 he married Kannetta Burnett of Plymouth in Logan, Utah. It was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on July 11, 1940. Mom passed away on June 3, 1992.
Dad was a farmer all of his life and loved to talk about his dry farm in Howell. He also owned a semi truck and hauled for Pacific Fruit and Central Mill. He loved music and as a young man he enjoyed singing and playing the saxophone for a dance band that went around to a lot of the small towns.
Dad has been a faithful member of the LDS church and he has held many church positions. He loved going fishing and traveling with the Good Sam Club. He also served on the River Heights town council and president of the National Farmer’s Association in Box Elder County.
Dad moved into the Pioneer Valley Lodge Retirement Center in North Logan in May 2002. He was so thankful for all the special friends he made there.
Dad is survived by his children 2 sons and a daughter. DeVon (Donna) Nish, Cottonwood Heights, Val (Pam) Nish, Smithfield, and Linda Kay Hancey, Hyde Park. He is survived by 15 grandchildren. Doug, Dallin (Susana), Don, David (Laney), Daniel Nish, Daionna Bracewell, Debbie (Matt) Nelson, Lori (Greg) Traveller, Darrin (Stacy) Hancey, Marci (Scott) Jackson, Mindi (Mike) Frost, Jody, Cody, Troy (Shari) and Jamie Nish.
He is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren. Deanna, Eric, and Ariella Bracewell, Shelby, Nicole, Alyssa Nish, Olivia, Coen Nelson, Carson and Kyleigh Traveller, Brianna, Christopher and Jonathan Hancey, Breck, Kimball and Cardon Jackson , Cale Frost, Mason, Bridger, Aspen, Anthony and Cierra Nish.
He is also survived by his brother Cecil (Shirley) Nish, Logan, Utah.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Pioneer Valley Lodge for their many years of kindness and friendship. A special thank you to Dr. Steven Salisbury and staff for their many years of excellent care they gave to dad. They would also like to thank the staff of Alpine Home Care and Heart and Hands for the wonderful service they provided to dad over the years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 30, 2009 at noon in the Providence Stake Center located at 800 South 600 East, River Heights, Utah. Friends may call on the family Wednesday, July 29, from 6-8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary located at 34 East Center Street in Logan. You may also call from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church.
