Hugh was born in Maricopa, Kern County, California, to Dorothy Seeth Lyle and Andrew Jackson Lyle on October 29, 1930, along with his twin, Helen. Hugh and Helen joined siblings George, Lois, and Ruth. He also had two half brothers, Cecil and Albert, from Andrew’s first marriage.
His sister Ruth said the twins were born at home. They were in Kern County temporarily while their father worked there. They soon moved to Raymond, California, in Madera County, where he grew up. In 1945, during his Freshman year, he served as Class President at Raymond High School.
From January 1951 – December 1954 he served in the United States Navy, on the USS Oriskany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Gunner’s Mate.
In June 1959, he married Vera Lorraine Hunt who passed away in December 2005. He is survived by his wife of eleven years, LaDon Jorgensen Lyle of Wellsville.
He was the loving father of Steve (Linda), Allen (Karen), Gordon (Linda), Teresa (Roddy), Patti (Eddy), Doug, and Katie (Eric).
He was beloved grandpa of Shannon, Jason (Marcie), Jarman (Rachelle), Jordan, Crystal (Nate), Cherie (Taylor), Tim (Danni), Tony (Malea), Terrill, Jocelyn (Jake), Jamie, Dayna (Braden), Derek, Marci, Amanda (Christian), Cheryl, Rod, Clayton, Whitney, Phil, Cole, and Will.
Great-grandfather to: Scott, Kaylie, Colton, Braxton, Ainslie, Brooklyn, Aaron, Charli, Will, Kytavia, BryGunn, Drexton, Bexlee, Taislie, Knox, Karter, Korben, J.D., Zaylee, Tracen, Berkley, Laityn, McKenna, Drake, and James.
Others important in his life include step children, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends too numerous to mention by name.
As a faithful Latter Day Saint, he served three missions during his retirement - Florida, Kentucky, and California. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, reading scriptures, and spending time with those who loved him. He will be remembered as a good man – kind, decent, hard-working and loving.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, daughter-in-law Becky, grandchildren Jordan and Terrill, brothers Cecil, Albert, and George, and his sister Lois.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in the Wellsville 7th Ward Chapel, 660 South 100 West in Wellsville. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 10:00 to 11:30 AM. Burial will be in the Wellsville Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
