Hyra Jean Wright, adoring wife, hallowed mother, cherished grandmother, and dearest friend retuned home to her Heavenly Father’s care Thursday, August 3, 2023 in Hyrum, Utah at the age of 88.
Hyra was born June 26, 1935 in Logan, Utah, to Victor Maurice and Jean Hatch. She was the oldest of three children, followed by her brother Dorian and sister Shareen. Hyra was raised primarily in Nampa, Idaho where her passion for music, singing, dancing, poetry, cooking and sewing grew. Upon graduating high school, Hyra moved to Logan, Utah where she attended college at Utah State University. She had the wonderful privilege of receiving lessons in piano from the well known Dr. Wasserman. This led her to become proficient in playing the piano and organ, and in the composition of music. In the course of her time, at USU, Hyra was involved in the Spurs Service Organization, President of the Home Ec Club, President of Chi Chapter of Lambda Delta Sigma, a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and also named Lambda Delta Sigma Sweetheart. Hyra received a Bachelor’s degree in Family Life and Home Economics.
It was while attending Utah State that she captured the eye of her love and sweetheart LaMar. The two were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah temple on February 28, 1957.
Hyra and LaMar have been blessed with 5 children; Monty and his wife Cindy, Vicky, Vaughn and his wife Diane, Larry and his wife Shelley, Heidi and her husband Bryan. They have 22 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Along with serving in her church callings, and her love of music, Hyra’s greatest adoration and love has always been for her grandchildren. Friday nights with the cousins at grandma and grandpa’s home, will be a treasured memory for them as the years progress.
Hyra was preceded in death by her dear mother and father, Jean and Maurice, her loved brother Dorian, and her deeply missed grandson Blake Michael Wright.
