Alice Ilene Burton Pack died September 5, 2009 of causes related to age and a recent fall. She was born August 1, 1920 to Roscoe Burton and Camilla Miller Burton.
Mom was raised in Nephi, Utah and graduated from Juab High School.
Her father died in a car accident when she was nine. Her mother later married George Duckworth, a widowed baker. She spent her high school years working at his bakery and soda fountain. During these years she honed her skills as a baker and cook. Mom always enjoyed showing her love for others through a pan of hot cinnamon rolls.
She met Herbert J. Pack, Jr. while working in Logan, Utah. They were married October 5, 1942 in Nephi, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. Dad died in 1997 from diabetes. She lived most of her married life in a home in Ogden, but moved to Cache Valley two years ago to be nearer family.
Mom excelled as a wife and mother. She took great joy in a neat and orderly home. There was always plenty of love and plenty of food. She was always the first to celebrate her children's accomplishments. Her only addiction was clothes. She loved clothes, and saw at least a monthly trip to Ogden and Salt Lake's department stores as almost a religious experience.
At the age of 86, she found that a high school sweetheart, Rex Hawkins had lost his wife to cancer and had also moved to Cache Valley. After nearly 70 years of not seeing each other, they fell in love all over again. We are grateful to Rex and his family for making her last years so rich.
Ilene is survived by one son, Rodney (Patrice) Pack, and one daughter, Marlene (Scott) Dunbar. She is also survived by four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Della Jackman; a stepsister, Trudy (Bill) Rohletter; and a sister-in-law, Beth Burton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Glen as well as a stepbrother and a stepsister.
There will be a viewing at the Leavitt's Mortuary at 836 36th Street in Ogden on Tuesday, September 8, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. There will be a graveside service for Ilene on Wednesday, September 9, at 11:00 AM. Condolences may be sent to the family online at

Ilene's family is grateful to Cache Valley Assisted Living in Providence for two years of loving care. Mom's quality of life would not have been nearly as good without them.
