Inez L. Bindrup

Inez L. Bindrup, 87, returned Home on June 16th, 2015. She was born on August 30th, 1927. She liked to remember that 1927 was the year that Charles Lindberg crossed the Atlantic. For a girl born in humble circumstances in Magna, Utah, she followed Lindberg’s lead, traveled far, and experienced much.
She grew up in Logan, Utah, where she was often found on the Ice Rink in Central Park, and playing her violin in many local venues. After High School she spread her wings and landed in Washington D.C., the “Nation’s Capitol” as she called it. Next stop was Yokohama, Japan as part of the post-war Occupation. She was surprised at the extreme poverty there, and the social distress, but loved to reminisce about working under Gen. MacArthur in the transformation of a great nation. In her letters home, she noted that Bob Hope was just as funny in person as on the radio.
Inez made a life-long friend in Japan, and she and Nancy Messine spent the rest of their lives together. When they returned to the states, they settled near Washington, D.C., where she worked at the Pentagon for forty years. She was an administrative assistant to some of the top leaders during the Korean, and Vietnam wars, and had a great respect for the military. Her brother LaVere Bindrup, was a Colonel and for a time also worked in the Pentagon just down the hall. He and another brother, Jay Bindrup, saw combat duty in Vietnam.
Inez grew up in the grand era of Hollywood, and was enamored of all the early stars. Judging by her bookcase, her all-time favorite movie was “Gone with the Wind”. Later in life, Inez fulfilled one of her dreams and took up ballet. She was tap dancing late into her seventies. People were attracted to her good looks, her outgoing personality and her sense of humor. She was an excellent photographer. The most cherished gift you could receive from her was the latest photo album of recent adventures. Whenever she was in the picture, it was always one of the poses she had used as a part-time model.
Inez was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Lela Bindrup, her brother LaVere (Patt) Bindrup, and sisters Beverley (Scott) Hansen, and Donna Loy (Edwin) Gossner. Her remaining siblings are Judy (Alan) Hofmeister, Jay Bindrup, and sister-in-law Patt Bindrup.
Inez will be buried in the Providence, Utah Cemetery. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2015 for those wishing to attend. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net
Throughout her life, Inez had a heart full of love for all of God’s creatures. She was the patron saint of orphaned animals, and volunteered with the SPCA for decades. The bulk of her estate is dedicated to that cause, and she would recommend it to those wanting to remember her.The family would really like to thank Inez's dear neighbors in Virginia for taking an interest in her life and well-being.
